Nice and cosy hotel at an unbeatable price. If you are travelling around Big Island and are looking for a place to sleep in the north - you should definitely go there. Clean room and shower and a good restaurant. Would definitely go back there.

The Kohala Villiage Inn sits in the center of Hawi - a little town with great restaurants (some of the best on the Big Island), a terrific coffee shop, The Coffee Mill ( around the corner) and a wonderful, relaxed vibe. The Inn's rooms are simple, clean, comfortable, and very quiet. The air conditioning and WI-FI worked well and there is a flat screen cable TV in each room. There are lovely outdoor public areas in the inn courtyard and wonderful activities all around on the northern end of the Big Island. The Inn's restaurant is top-notch and the extensive Sunday morning brunch buffet is one of the great food bargains on the Big Island. The Inn's room prices are reasonable and Hawi is a great place to experience the real feel of Hawaii away from the tourist centers.

The Kohala Village Inn is more than just a place to stay. It's an inn, a bar, a restaurant, and a community center. If you want yoga, tai chi, help with taxes, or summer children's camp, it's all there. The town of Hawi and the region of Kohala were hit hard when the plantations closed, and they've worked hard to rebuild economically. The inn is central to that effort in providing support to the community.

This is not a resort. Don't expect luxury accommodations. The front desk closes at 7 PM. The rooms in the part we stayed in were off an enclosed walkway, which surrounded a patio with foliage and chairs to relax. There was a nice cross-breeze in the bedroom, but we closed the windows and used the A/C since we were close to the noise of the cars on the street and the roosters nearby.

The room was simple. King bed, two nightstands, chair, table, refrigerator, closet, bathroom and shower. The furnishing could use an upgrade, but they were completely adequate. The bathroom curtains were discolored and needed washing, plus the toilet needed a touchup cleaning. For what we paid and expected, it was adequate.

We were a three minute walk from shopping - organic local produce, coffee, chocolate, a coffee chop, and Bamboo, where we ate dinner. It was refreshing being away from the high-class resort parts of the island and enjoy a simpler life.

Loved our short stay here; friendly staff, clean quiet room – what more could you want? Well, you could want the restaurant to be open for dinner as we were told when we booked, and when we checked in around 4. But when we went down for dinner, very hungry at around 7, the restaurant had closed at about 5! Not very professional – but other than that snafu, we really enjoyed this sweet, unpretentious little place.
