As you can read through all the other reviews on this business, the experience of snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay is one not to be missed on your visit to the Big Island. The water is warm, crystal clear and the marine life is abundant. The opportunity to take in all of beauty and power of this magical place at your own pace and on your own terms made this one of the most unforgettable adventures of our recent visit.

This review, however, is for Ricky and his daughter at Bay Side adventures. When we called to reserve a kayak an hour before we expected to be on the water we were greeted with an infectiously enthusiastic voice that asked us only when we planned to be on the water and our names. We gave them both and were told, "yep, we can do that." After receiving directions to their location we arrived and were met with the same enthusiasm and professionalism. Exuding the same generosity of spirit that met us throughout on our week on the Island, Ricky also demonstrated matter of fact professionalism. After carefully listening to what we wanted to do, and where we wanted to go, he asked us our experience with kayaking (moderate) and explained how this boat worked, how to get in and out, what to do should it capsize while we were getting in and out during our snorkel. All of this was done with a relaxed but pointed clarity. As was pointed out by other reviews, Bayside equipped us with all the necessary equipment (lifejackets, paddles, drybags) we needed. It was clear that Ricky took his job seriously and wanted to insure his guests had a safe and enjoyable time.

This service stands in stark contrast to two other outfits we had contacted the day before when we were hoping to kayak in the afternoon. We had to leave voicemails for both and neither of them returned our call.

Kealakekua Bay sells itself as to the quality of the experience it has to offer. It is especially gratifying to have that experience enhanced by the spirit and the service of the company that outfits you. Bayside Adventures did just that. Mahalo for your effort, and best wishes to you for continued success with your business.

Bay Side Adventures is a great family run company located on the water. We arrived to Bayside at 8:00am. They provided us with dry bags for our gear, went over safety, gave us tips about where to see spinner dolphins and the best areas to snorkel. We had an amazing adventure.

We arrived with a large group to kayak and snorkel at Captain Cooks. When we arrived the family running the business were great. We told them some of our group was running late and they had no problem holding onto the kayaks for them. We took their advice and saw a lot of sea life. They even recommended a local place to eat once we were done.

Great family run business. Plenty of equipment. So amazing to kayak through pods of dolphins and the snorkeling is amazing. Can hop off the kayak at Captain Cook Monument for a break. Reasonably priced and super friendly.
