Owner description: The most beautiful cave in Wisconsin and the upper Midwest, Cave of the Mounds lies just off U.S. Highways 18/151 in Blue Mounds, WI. The United States Department of the Interior and the National Park Service designated Cave of the Mounds a National Natural Landmark because the site possesses "exceptional value as an illustration of the nation's natural heritage and contributes to a better understanding of man's environment". Curious tourists and budding cave enthusiasts have been enjoying an introduction to caving in the midwest for years while visiting Cave of the Mounds. Commonly referred to as the "jewel box" of America's major caves for the variety and delicacy of its formations, Cave of the Mounds is recognized by the Chicago Academy of Sciences as "the significant cave of the upper Midwest".

If you’ve never been to a cave, add a star. It is a small cave and still growing. There are few colors or more mature growths. There was only one column in the entire cave. The guide was a young man with a superb speaking voice. I hope he goes on to become a teacher.

This was a great place to visit. My hubby was in Madison on business and so I had time to spare during the day. Found this place and so glad I did. Tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable! Great place for the family to explore!

We decided to visit the place as my friend suggested it and it was really a day spent well with the family and kids. It's a beautiful natural splendor and the guided tour makes it more interesting, informative and easy. You will be amazed by the natural rock formations. It's cooler and wet at some places inside the caves so dress appropriately with a jacket and shoes suitable for walking and a little climbing. Only a stretch is a little narrow and you will have to move sideways. We visited the caves with an infant and it was easy, we just parked the stroller in the front and had to carry her along, so you can plan a visit with the whole family. There are gift shops that sell minerals and some pretty and interesting stuff. There are activities for kids too. The grounds are great for picnic. Kids enjoyed so much.

What a jaw dropping site that young and old can be awe inspired by. Our guide was really great and we never felt rushed. We found this gem while we were taking a drive on the beautiful country roads. Being it was unplanned we weren't prepared for the 50 degree temperature underground but we're still ok for the hour long tour. Being prepared by having a sweatshirt or light jacket, although the ground is wet it never was slick or slippery at all. The gardens on the grounds are also beautiful and there are a couple of short trails you can walk.

This is an amazing cave the the ground are beautiful. We got to spend a decent amount of time in the cave and the tour was well organized. Our tour guide was okay, was expecting a bit more information and excitement for the money this tour cost. Glad we stopped but due to the cost would not come again. Really expensive for what you get.

Thank you for visiting Cave of the Mounds Rita, and for your feedback. In addition to the one hour guided cave tour, guests typically spend anywhere from an additional hour up to a half day with us enjoying the above ground activities including Interpretive Trails, Barn Discovery Center, Butterfly and Rock Gardens, Picnic Areas, Geologic Timeline, Adventure Ranger Program which are all free for our guests to enjoy while here at the park. We pride ourselves on hiring and training enthusiastic staff who are passionate about the cave and about serving our guests with a smile. Some of our tour guides use more humor than others, but excitement is surely a prerequiset for a engaging experience.
