You have to take some sort of boat or something over to the lighthouse. We went to see it to find out that there was no way to actually get to the lighthouse.

Thank you for your review. With Lake Michigan waters being high, the Island has once again become a true island. To help visitors get across we have purchased a tractor and wagon that helps transport visitors over to the island between 10:30-4:30 daily pending we have volunteer who is able to drive the tractor. Otherwise water shoes are recommended for crossing over to Cana Island.

Where do I begin?! Amazing visit to this important part of Door County's history! From the wagon ride that takes you from the main land to the isnland, to exploring this island, & then to the climb up the Light house itself, it was a great experience. Our wagon driver, Bob, was personable & kind. When we arrived at the island, the gentleman who greeted us, Rick, gaves us a quick but informative back history on the island & lighthouse. From there we paid the fee (worth ever dollar of the 12$ fee for adults) and were set free explore the island. We climbed the 97 stairs to the top of the Light house and was able to get a breathtaking view. **we don't have children, however we were ahead of a couple who had smaller children (maybe 5 or 6) and ot terrified me that they climbed the open back rought iron spiral stair case. I was terrified that they would slip and fall down or through the stairs** there are rules to climb as well, but not recommneded for young children. Also, I highly recommend wearing comforable stapped on sandles or tennis shoes.
Overall, one of the best things we did whole in DC.

Thank Morgen R

Thank you for the amazing review! This is surely a once in a life-time experience. It is very rare for a lighthouse to have the original Fresnel Lens still at the top of the tower.

It was $12 to go see and walk up the lighthouse. There is a tractor with a wagon to take you across the Rocky path. It was to cold and water was high so we didn't try to walk it.

Thank you for your review. Please note that much of the admission fees go to restore Cana Island. We have stabilized the outside of the house and tower and still need to renovate the inside of the house and tower.

It was nice to have the ride across the water in the duck boat. This is a true lighthouse. I'd say a must do when visiting here.

We do not have a duck boat but we do have a tractor and wagon that help visitor's cross the rocky causeway to Cana Island house. It is a fun, family-friendly attraction.

Even getting out of there is an adventure as the tractor pulled wagon crosses over the flooded Causeway. There's a fee to get into the lighthouse which is payed when you get onto the island. If you're by Sturgeon Bay and the Maritime museum there, get a family membership, it'll cover Cana Island and the Gill's Rock museums also.

Thank you for your review. Yes it is very cost effective to purchase a Door County Maritime Museum membership. For individuals or for a family with dependent children it will give you unlimited access to Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay, Death's Door Maritime Museum in Gills Rock and Cana Island Lighthouse in Baileys Harbor.
