Owner description: Your journey begins at Wappocomo Station, situated next to a charming homestead and a sprawling view of the mountains. Enjoy the sounds of vintage diesels as they lead you through beautiful pastures and farms dating back to the 1700s. As you wind along the South Branch of the Potomac River, you’ll enter a visually-striking gorge known as the Trough. One of the most scenic spots along the South Branch, the Trough is home to American bald eagles. All excursions are round-trip and include narration. A concession car is available to purchase snacks and drinks. Sorry, no smoking, pets, or alcoholic beverages permitted.

An excellent outing for family and friends, the Potomac Eagle is a restored train and engine from by gone days. It is literally in our backyard, but buses and crowds come from all over to ride the rails and see the eagles! It is almost guaranteed that you will see one or more on this excursion up the South Branch of the Potomac River in eastern panhandle of WV starting in Romney and returning. Dinner is available as well as snacks on board. A platform car allows you to stand outside and view the hills, river, and wild life as you travel. Club cars have tables and AC (if necessary).

2 hour train ride through the famous Trough down to Moorefield. Saw several eagles, a few deer, and even a black bear. Trip was narrated describing the local history. Once in Moorefield, the train stopped so we could view the fireworks, which were almost right above the train. Tip: for best fireworks viewing go to front open car.

I was a little skeptical about the $50 ticket price, but it was definitely worth it.

25 years ago I visited Potomac Eagle, it was an amazing experience. Today I relived that experience with my wife and children and again it was an amazing experience. Wonderful staff, wonderful scenery. We saw numerous bald eagles and had an incredible day!

Had a great day with friends Merorial Day weekend on the all day trip from Romney to Petersburg and back. Avid birders, we were not disappointed with a view of at least ten eagles and other birds through the Trough. Staff was helpful. We had our dinner meal in the newly reupholstered Club car. It was a great trip.

The train is pulled with a diesel engine, old but not the exciting steam engine. The ride is very soothing, long and restful, along the river bed with nice views of the river and the nearby mountains. The guide gives a talk about the history of the area and points out buildings/sites of special interest. The cars are in fairly good condition and food (Hot dogs, snacks, beverages) is available. The trip through the "trough" is simply a ride through an area where the mountains make the river narrow. The "Gondola" in a car that is open on the top and travelers are invited to site in splintery wooden sears for the 45 minute ride through the area. Restful--I noticed quite a few people snoozing on the trip back.
