The train is pulled with a diesel engine, old but not the exciting steam engine. The ride is very soothing, long and restful, along the river bed with nice views of the river and the nearby mountains. The guide gives a talk about the history of the area and points out buildings/sites of special interest. The cars are in fairly good condition and food (Hot dogs, snacks, beverages) is available. The trip through the "trough" is simply a ride through an area where the mountains make the river narrow. The "Gondola" in a car that is open on the top and travelers are invited to site in splintery wooden sears for the 45 minute ride through the area. Restful--I noticed quite a few people snoozing on the trip back.
