The Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad is indeed a scenic ride. The train follows the South Branch of the Potomac River where American Bald Eagles nest and cows and deer graze. The ride was narrated live and the train often came to a crawl in order for riders to view perched eagles or take pictures of particularly beautiful views of the river as it snakes through the mountain valley. The train cars are old but neat and clean. We brought our own picnic lunch but the kids enjoyed buying $1.00 popsicles from the snack bar. The coach cars are not air conditioned but the open windows afforded us a wonderfully refreshing breeze and great views. Our group included a preschooler, tweens, and senior citizens and we all enjoyed the ride.
