I wanted a place that offered outdoor fun, beautiful scenery, and local activities with the advantage of being "middle ground" distance wise and Tygart Lake was a no brainer! We checked in on a Friday for 3 nights into Lodge Room 7 (they were offering multi-day discounts).

The room had doubles with a view of the lake, flat screen TV with Comcast box, microwave, mini-fridge, plenty of open closet space, two sinks separate from the toilet room, and a toilet and shower/tub combo. It was clean, comfy, spacious, and appeared recently updated. The amenities are made by a soap company in Fayetteville, WV and were delicately scented - we took the unused stuff home because we liked it so much! The TV worked with no problem, even through multiple downpours. When looking outside, the view was awesome! You could see a good portion of the lake with boat traffic, birds constantly soaring around, and the little seating area just ahead for direct view.

The weather was a 50/50 experience. The temps ranged from 65 to 90, sun and then sudden complete downpour but was half-and-half precipitation so that we could get a few things done outside. We nosed around. We noted that most of the cabins were well spaced with Cabin #6 having the best lake view with less trees to break the viewpoint. We also noted well shaded nooks for tent camping with some electric hook-ups, but it seemed that the area was not exactly best for large camper/RV parking. The camping area dead-ends in a loop.

The marina and beach area was PACKED, but there was plenty of parking for trailers and campers alike away from the main road. We opted to not swim or boat/fish. The view, however, from that area is awesome as you can see the dam.

We hiked the Tygart Dam trail and got close to the cement beast. The area also gives you another wide perspective of the lake while under shade - nice, remote spot. We also did the Lake Trail that leads down from the lodge to the front pier. The water was relatively clear and we noted how clean the shoreline was.

We ate at Apple Annie's on one evening and ordered an order of cheese sticks and a large Wheeler (I think?) Pizza with tomatoes, 4 cheeses, and olive oil. Talk about delicious! Dinner was hot, fresh, and very filling that came to around $25 w/o tip. The other days, we took advantage of their mini-pavilions and enjoyed picnic lunches, listening to the birds and cicadas. In fact, we got caught in a downpour and the mini-shelter kept us quite dry!

All in all, despite the roller coaster weather, we had plenty of opportunities to get out and see the local beauty or just enjoy the comfy couches in the Lodge while watching the clouds go by. Like I said, 1st Father-Daughter weekend = SUCCESS!

(NOTE: We stopped by Pricketts Fort, Valley Falls, Grafton National Cemetery, Prunytown National Cemetary, and the International Mother's Day Shrine. See my reviews for more insight)

Room tip: Some rooms have decks - be sure to inquire!

If our cabins were any more romantic...and we saw an Indigo Bunting. The food is fantastic. Come. Unplug. Relax. We had a wonderful fire in the fireplace at night in our cabin which are reasonably priced and very quiet. There is a lot of room in the cabin With a kitchenette available. Just enjoy a wonderful experience to unplug.

Love staying at this lodge. Water pressure and temperature is EXCELLENT. The rooms are always clean. The service at the desk is very pleasant. The view is to die for. The rooms are a great size and the beds are comfortable. Needed extra blankets on this stay and they had no problem with providing them along with extra pillows too. The restaurant attached is now called Apple Annie's and served a wonderful breakfast for us two days in a row. My omelette was tasty. Breakfast is served till 11am. That's a plus in my book.
I love staying here when I am in town.

This lodge is pretty small... only 20 rooms in the main building. I recommend you make your reservations early if you plan to stay. There are separate cabins that are really private and separated from most other facilities. The lodge rooms are big and comfortable with a large window facing the lake. The main lodge includes reception and a restaurant, currently Boston Beanery.. It appears that the restaurant will soon change hands and offer Apple Annie's instead. I don't know anything about Apple Annie's other than there is a similar named restaurant up Route 119 in Point Marion, PA.

Room tip: I believe all the rooms have windows facing the lake.

Nice room, nice view, reasonable price, what more could you ask for. The housekeeping is also good with some nice amenities we didn't expect. Also check out the restaurant in the lodge. We thoroughly enjoyed our two nights here.
