We live in Tacoma and got a room here with our baby and toddler to take advantage of air-conditioning and the pool during an intense heat wave. When we checked-in they just gave us our room keys - no information about accessing the pool, wi-fi, or anything. We assumed information would be in the room (which it wasn't - we called the front desk. When we got to the room, there was ketchup smudged on the bedside table, no toilet paper at all in the bathroom, and only decaf coffee packets.

We stayed for two nights and made a point to leave the room in the morning for housekeeping to make beds, etc. Housekeeping never came.

The pool was nice, but also very crowded and very heavy on the chlorine. Luckily we were able to find a pretty calm area in the shallow-end with our little ones. We were fine with all of the kids splashing, throwing footballs, etc. but there were some older guests who were obviously expecting a more calm pool experience.

Also - the hotel restaurant was closed when we checked in (about 4pm on Sunday). Based on our experience, I'm not optimistic about the food so that was probably a good thing. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance that offer takeout.

As a resident of Tacoma, I will not be recommending this hotel to out-of-town guests. You're much better off at the Silver Cloud or McMenamins. This is just not what you'd expect from a Marriott property.

Room tip: The pool and fitness center are on the 5th floor. The pool was open from 7am-11pm.

For being a new Marriott , staff is badly short, not trained, and not service minded but rude. No luggage help or carts, no help with parking but still charge $26 per day, checked into room that was not cleaned, switched to different room -clean but no toilet paper: they said elite gold was not allowed upgrade or late checkout. I showed them online. Restaurant and bar were closed due to no staffing. Finally they did not know how to check out over the phone. No food and no maps to restaurants. This is in great need of total service overhaul.

Having traveled and stayed in many Marriott properties in multiple states and multiple countries, this particular property is lacking in several areas. This property is located downtown, next to the convention center and next to the water. A location where one would expect to have the amenities traditionally found in a full service Marriott. The views from the room are good, but that alone does not justify the rate.

Upon checking into the hotel and making my way to the room, I found leftovers from the previous occupant still in the refrigerator.

There was not a complete set of towels in the bathroom, had to request additional sets, as well as requesting the essential spare roll of toilet paper. The only roll in the bathroom was the partial one on the roller.

There is not a valet or anyone to assist with recommending restaurants or places to visit (the Courtyard across the street has a valet and the website states that one is available). I asked at the front desk for a recommendation for a seafood restaurant nearby, and was directed to a Japanese sushi place next door, even though there are several more within walking distance.

The M Club, or concierge lounge, is available 24 hours, but is not restocked or even checked on a regular basis. Many times, especially over the weekend, the lounge was out of water and snacks, and the coffee machine required cleaning and refilling. The hors d'oeuvres provided were less than minimal and not up to Marriott standard.

The restaurant was closed on Sunday evening, at 6:30 pm, with no warning or prior notice, only a printout on a sign and a dark restaurant. The bar seemed to be open though. Oh, and there is no room service at the hotel...open restaurant or not.

I understand that current events (COVID restrictions) have led to changes, but I have stayed at lower level Marriott properties in the same state and the same area during the same restrictions that have been able to provide the Marriott experience better than this location.

My recommendation is to skip here and go across the street to the Courtyard, their restaurant is open.
