Description: Joni and John Trumbull opened Roses in 1991. The name is derived from the roses planted around the shop's original location. Bakery was included in the name as our original cafe menu relied heavily on sweet and savory goods from the bakery oven. A retail store was added in 1995, which allowed us to sell our baked goods as well as cheese, charcuterie, wines and pantry staples for the serious cook. In 2003, we moved into the remodeled original Eastsound fire station and brought everything under one roof. From the beginning, the intent of Roses was to see nourishment from a more holistic standpoint, providing good, satisfying food and building a sense of community that values the relationships among staff, customers, farms and suppliers.

It was such a treat for both of us to discover Rose's and it was obvious the word was out as so many of the folks who live on Orcas were also there. I love to cook and we both so enjoyed the choices on the menu, and their own delicious pastries and breads. We purchased some items to take to our friends as well. Hard to miss going back there even to try some place else. The servers and service is very special as well, even in the midst of many customers.

Have been to Rose's numerous times over the years and today was the first negative experience we've had. Ordered the Halibut Sandwich - the Halibut filet in the sandwich filled up only 1/2 of the yummy bread it was served on - mostly bread with just a little fish. Bean soup was very flavorful but was not hot, just lukewarm. Delicious bread with butter was served with the sandwich, but I would have much preferred a decent sized filet of halibut on the sandwich I ordered instead of the extra bread and butter.

We felt as if we were transported to France and Italy as we entered this lovely establishment. On one end of the building is a fine market featuring wines and cheeses and baked goods and sundry other items. The greater part of this building is Roses and it is a restaurant worth getting to. We boated into Eastsound for the day, and wandered around the village, Visiting some fun shops and galleries, before discovering Roses for our late luncheon. My pasta Vongole was full of tasty clams, the sauce a light white wine, butter, red chile and herb, generously topped with fresh shaved Parmesan cheese. My husband had a wonderful crab sandwich Po-boy with an amazing slaw, one of our friends had a beautiful beet salad with nuts and goat cheese I would certainly order on a future visit, and her husband had an asparagus pizza that looked straight out of Italy! We were all so pleased with our dishes, and shared a bottle of French white wine over lunch. We even managed to snag some wonderful looking pastries after our meal to enjoy with our coffee and tea the next morning. We will make this a perpetual stop when boating around Orcas Island! The service was marvelous and the grounds around the property are well-kept and beautiful.

We have been to Roses countless time and it never fails to disappoint. This was our first visit for breakfast. We both enjoyed a satiating breakfast with farm fresh eggs, cured meats and potatoes. The portions were delicious and satiating and fueled us for a day of hiking on Orcas Island.

Forget the the usual American restaurant breakfast of 2 eggs with [frozen] hash browns and head to Rose's for real, live potatoes--perfectly prepared, shredded and baked, with poached eggs on top and a thin slice of Serrano ham (think prosciutto), or choose lovely whole grain toast with slices of Gouda cheese and perfectly ripe pear. A class act. No more pricey than other Orcas eateries.
