Popped into the Royal today for lunch as it was our Anniversary. The setting is lovely and the views are great. Our main courses were fine but the desserts were a little disappointing. I had the sticky toffee pudding which was lovely but the ice cream was totally melted. My wife had the white chocolate tart with raspberries - note plural - it came with two! Hardly generous and again the ice cream was totally melted. I know it was a hot day but that’s no excuse for the ice cream,it should at least arrive as a solid lump. We enjoy coming to the Royal so it won’t put us off.

Oh, my goodness! Can’t say enough about the hospitality that was ours while we were there. The staff goes way above and beyond to help with every possible concern. The rooms, lobby, bar and dining areas are beautifully decorated and maintained. The views are gorgeous, but that staff is just everything!

Needing a much needed mini break friends recommended the Royal Inn and it was everything they promised, as we checked in the duty manager seeing my husband was limping (torn meniscus tendon) insisted he carried our case up the stairs to our beautiful room, this stunning building has been decorated both beautifully and sympathetically, we had amazing views over the estuary and both the bedroom and en suite was very spacious, a wonderful choice of continental and cooked breakfast to start our day and a delicious dinner to end it, the standard of cleanliness was impressive as are the staff, all so polite and friendly and helped make our stay unforgettable and we cannot wait to come back and bring friends

Great place with lovely views and quality coffee at a good price. Food is good but expensive. One thing I took up with lady manager was we keep getting our drinks (Coffes) bought to us and before you can take a sip, you have waiting staff coming to your table asking, “ Have you finished.” Or can I take these. This ruins the relaxation there. Sadly after raising it it still happens

firstly i have heard about The Royal from family & friends but never visited.We went on Sunday on cup final day we arrived about 12.30 & asked if there was any free tables for us 3 ladies the bar man said that they were fully booked but the bar manager Natasha( I think) overheard us & then said that was for later on & we could have a table. We probably had the best tale in the building over looking the patio &views across the estuary( massive )ceiling to floor window. We had the sunday roast (only roast on that day) us 3 ladies all had different 1 had childs turkey meal (has small appetite) the other had beef & I had pork with crackling all 3 dishes had yorkshire pudding & the vegtables were fresh 10/10 I have worked in a kitchen & know how hard it can be also the gravy was just right not watery!! THanks to Natasha & all the staff who were young but polite & as my grandaughter knew a staff member we talked about the match later. Yes i will be visiting The Royal again when Im next in Portishead a friend has told me the sea bass is lovely. Well done to all the staff service & food 10/10.
