We've just spent two weeks in Villa Poppy, we travelled with our three children aged 6, 12 and 14 and my parents who are in their early sixties. The villa itself is nice enough on the surface, the furniture is new enough and it's nicely decorated however it's not without its issues.
We were shown around by the manager but she wasn't terribly thorough so we were left to sort ourselves out, wifi is provided but it took us a few days to work the tv and the hub as we weren't given any information.
We arrived late on in the afternoon so we shopped for breakfast stuff before heading out to dinner, the next morning the milk we'd put into the fridge was off and the butter soft. The sausages and bacon had to be thrown out as the fridge clearly wasn't working. An engineer was sent almost straight away but despite him telling us the fridge was inadequate the manager initially refused to replace the unit saying that 'milk goes off in the heat' she also said the fridge was over filled despite the fact that all it originally contained was milk, butter, sausages and bacon. The milk I bought last year in Corralejo lasted at least three days in a working fridge so we declined her advice to stick to the UHT.
The fridge was actually too small for a family or indeed a property for 7/8 individuals, even keeping the minimum of water and juices cool was problematic initially. The owner eventually agreed to a larger fridge which was placed in the garage downstairs. This in itself wasn't ideal but much better than the small fridge in the kitchen, at least we were able to have cold water and juices without constant rotation even if it was a flight of stairs below the kitchen.
The villa is situated in a residential development so there was a bit of noise from some building works, luckily we didn't plan to lie in as the grinder started at around 8am each day.
We asked half way through the first week when we would be getting a pool clean as it was initially promised twice a week, the pool cleaner finally arrived on day 8 after two reminders and that was the one and only visit we had, one pool clean in a fortnight isn't great especially when it's being used by three kids.
Another issue was the linen, I have stayed in many villas and I have always been given a set of clean sheets to either change myself or we've had someone come in and replace linen and towels half way through the stay. I asked when the clean linen would arrive and was told that we had a washing machine. We did indeed have a washing machine but at nearly £3000 I didn't actually expect to be washing bed sheets especially as there was one small clothes drier. We had to go out and buy a washing line so we could wash two double bed sets and three single. We also had to wash the towels and bath mats which I can't say I've been expected to do before on a two week villa holiday. I am certainly not asking or expecting a cleaner but a spare bedding set for each bed would have been nice and in my experience it is perfectly normal to have spares. Had one of the kids been sick or something in the night we had no change of bedding.
We did also discover quite a lot of dirt, the place looked clean on the surface but we found a lot of dirt and rubbish under chairs and the like. The upstairs terrace was filthy with bundles of dirt and rubbish underneath the rattan furniture. There was also wrappers left in the drawers from previous occupants, the cleaners obviously didn't check during the change over clean.
This could be a great place to stay but unfortunately the manager lacks some customer service skills, we arrived to be told the pool heater was on because the previous occupants had complained therefore when we discovered issues we were reluctant to contact her as you could almost feel her rolling her eyes! It made for an uncomfortable experience and not one I've encountered before, villa owners and managers are generally a courteous and approachable bunch.
The pool also loses around 10 inches of water every night which is evident in the damp patches in the downstairs bedroom, they are actually wet to the touch, had the pool guy shown up twice a week as promised he probably would have noticed this. The paint is flaking off the exterior wall next to the pool so you end up with paint chips in the water and all around the pool area, the wall has been repaired several times by the look of it but it seems futile to continue to patch it, proper repair is required. Having peeling paint less than six inches from people splashing in a swimming pool is going to cause issues.
The downstairs bedroom not only has wet patches on the walls it also smells quite damp so there is an ongoing problem somewhere. My parents have both been treated for chest infections since they returned which the Dr said is likely to have been exacerbated by the spores they've been breathing in. The last few nights they slept upstairs in the single beds with my eldest son on the couch as they could no longer stand the fetid air.
Two days before we left we received a message to say we had to vacate by 10am despite a late afternoon flight, I asked about the return of my damage deposit and was told it would be returned in seven days once the property has been inspected. I have heard nothing since despite messages via the booking site. This is not satisfactory, the inspection and deposit return should be processed before the keys are returned, again another niggle down to unprofessional management.
We had a fantastic holiday over all, Corralejo is a great town which we have visited before and will again, sadly I would avoid Villa Poppy, it isn't being looked after properly and trying to skimp on pool cleans and linen changes just spoils what should be a really nice property. Thankfully we made the best of it, we bought a mop and bucket and made sure the place was at least sanitary but it's not something you expect to have to do. The property could be totally different with decent management and an organised cleaning and maintenance schedule but until it is significantly improved I would recommend looking elsewhere.

We stayed at Villa Poppy for 7 nights in June and we had such a fantastic holiday!
Villa poppy exceeded our already high expectations! There wasn't anything that we needed whilst we were here.
Attention to detail is prevalent in this property with picnic equipment, hair straighteners being an extra bonus!
An exceptionally high standard in every room and we really were spoilt for choice over where to sleep because there was only two of us.
All rooms are spacious, especially the ground floor bedroom which again is a very lovely space to just relax and unwind in.
The upstairs terrace was very relaxing to just chill out on an evening time and during the day we would spend by the lovely private pool.
There is even a BBQ for a perfect evening spent in!
The area is a few minutes walk from a lovely little shopping area with pretty handmade crafts and jewellery and groceries.
The main town is only a ten minute walk with plenty of places for lovely food and cold beer.
We have enjoyed the stay so much, we are coming back later this year to Villa Poppy.
You won't be disappointed here :o)
