“Simplicity and quietness”

An old house, mostly with "retro" furnishing, but with the necessary equipment to make you feel comfortable. The location is in a rural suburb, almost making you forget that you are just 10 km away from the city of Porto. There is a grocery on the other side of the narrow street, so old-fashioned that it is almost a vintage charming shop. There, you will find the food you need to prepare the meals. The hosts are very kind, and they live next door; so this ensures that any problem may be solved promptly. The house has also a nice garden. It is a perfect place for a long romantic break, or for a couple with a small child who wishes to explore Porto and its environs. However, it is not advisable for people with reduced mobility, because of the narrow stairs. People requiring sofisticated and asseptic places to stay, should also book elsewhere.

“Beautiful, calm and friendly...”

We (the two of us plus our 11 month old daughter) spent 5 beautiful weeks in Teresa and Pedros' (T&P) Casa do Mestrinho. It was everything we hoped for and a wonderful experience for our young family.
You can tell that lots of time, effort and love went into the house which is what makes it so special. We loved the mix of old and new. T&P made the house baby friendly just for us and we had more than we could hope for (including but not limited to a baby chair, a crib, toys, a tub, a small pool...). This was amazing and very helpful. Isabel felt right at home.

A structured review:
Downstairs:
Kitchen: Very well equipped; Everything you could want and need including basic groceries.
Bathroom: though a bit small it is lovely and clean
Dining room: it is the only room in the house without a window but the open door and ceiling light almost entirely make up for it. We didn't spend much time here as we preferred the garden to eat but the times we did eat here it was fine.
Living room: beautifully redone and nice to relax if the weather isn't at its best. We used the room mainly as a play room and changing room for our daughter.
Upstairs:
We used one of the rooms as a changing/storage room and one as our bed room. The bed was alright (long enough for a very tall man) and there was enough storage room for us 3.
Next to the rooms there was a space (we called it the gallery) which we used as Isabels sleeping room. After she had a few mosquito bites the first night T&P brought us a mosquito net for her crib and we had no problems after that (and our little baby slept like a princess).
The garden:
The highlight of the house is its garden. It is beautiful, spacious and well kept (lots of work for T&P). There's enough shade if you need it but enough sun if you want it. The only "but" of the garden is that its dangerous for small children who run around aimlessly (which was not the case for us as Isabel cannot walk yet). It spreads across three different levels and drops down a few feet on two sides to the neighbor. Difficult to explain here but no problem if your kids understand the dangers heights.
Avintes:
The town of Avintes lies uphill from the house and is not very spectacular. The "pasteleria" is very good and there are a few grocery stores. You need a car! But with a car everything is nearby. The people are very friendly and always greeted us with a smile.

I would have so much more to say but summarized we can absolutely recommend the house to young families or couples. More than 4 adults could be a bit cozy...
T&P are wonderful "hosts" and very good people. Thank you.

“Very friendly welcome - very nicely remodeled historic apartment”

We had a great time in Casa do Mestrinho while travelling with our 5 month old baby. Teresa and Pedro are incredibly friendly and helpful. It was great to have some welcome essentials like bread, milk, ham, some eggs from the chickens in the backyard and a incredibly tasty homemade marmalade and of course some fresh coffee waiting for you. The house is really nice and we enjoyed the beautiful and calm garden with a great view to Porto and the Douro.
Also the people around this place (e.g. in the little store across the street) are very friendly and this made it a great base for some Porto and Douro valley explorations. Be sure to come by car and drive to the church first (our gps tried to get us there from down at the river... streets are too narrow there).
Thanks Teresa and Pedro for letting us stay there - we'll come back.
