Levanto is one of the few spots at the mediterranean sea with awesome surf conditions. The swell is amazing and very conistent. April seemed to be the perfect month in terms of climate to do some extensive bike tours through the Cinque Terre with our babies and surf some waves.

Nice beach. Easy to use the free swim area. Close to the town centre. So food choices are good. Beach restaurants cheap and friendly. The water quality at the beaches on the rail trail is perfect. Worth a bike ride.

Loved the beach and overall it's a lovely place to be.
You can have a beach massage even.
A place to return obviously.

Headed to Cinque Terre? If you love crowds, elbow to elbow, pushing their way on & off trains, then stay in one of the 5 towns: Monterosso, Corniglia, Vernazza, Riomaggiore or Manarola. If, on the other hand, you like more quiet & peace, stay in Levanto—one stop north (5 minutes by train) of Monterosso. None of the crowds & craziness that goes with the fun 5 towns of Cinque Terre. Levanto is charming, beautiful, excellent food & accommodations-- and less expensive. Not the countless steps & elevation of the other 5 towns of Cinque Terre—much easier to negotiate—especially with luggage! We stayed from the first week to the second week in June & were very happy to have avoided-- much of the time-- the throngs we traveled with on the train to visit the amazing towns of Cinque Terre. Levanto is a gem! At this time of the year, it was impossible to walk more than 5 minutes without being enchanted by the sweet fragrance of jasmine & other beautiful fragrances.—everywhere! Staying in Levanto is like coming home after a crazy, hair-on-fire day at work to a relaxing, quiet serenity of feet up, classical music & conversation about where your next trip will take you. S-h-h-h-h! Don’t tell! Let’s keep this a secret so that those throngs of tourists don’t spoil this quiet treasure with their pushing & shoving!

Stayed right on the beach in a rental. Walked it many times during our stay. Several bars on the beach with food to eat. Beach combines public places to just sit on the beach on your own towel, and places that rent lounges and umbrellas. One block off the town so very convenient to walk into the town and eat, shop, etc. Lots of paid parking along the whole beach.
