“Fun Animal Park”

Fort Chiswell Animal Park
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 28 June 2018

While vacationing in Northeast Tennessee we took a day trip to this animal park and we pleasantly surprised with it. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and highly efficient in caring for the animals. They show their love for these creatures in their explanation of each animal by name and habitat. It was a lovely tour which is 2 parts, a walk through a petting area and the bus ride around the park to see the animals up close. It is a wonderful way to spend a couple hours with your children.

This was for sure a one of a kind experience. We visit lots of animal related places and never has a camel been practically in my lap and close enough to kiss. The initial area you enter is just a petting zoo type place with a few goats wondering in the open and then lots more animals behind fences that you can reach over or through to feed (bags of feed can be purchased there).
The bus ride is really a unique thing. There is a fairly assertively friendly camel that follows the bus sticking its head way in each window looking for some food or attention. Several other animals come up along the route—ostrich, zebras, zedonk, water buffalo....little pigs running around....
Really neat open space with content looking animals. The staff is all friendly and knowledgeable. Our kids are 2 and 7 and both loved it. Adults too.

My daughter and I loved this place. The animals came very close to be touched and fed. The safari ride (included in the price) was great. The animals put their heads right in the windows. The funniest was Puff the camel who would take the plastic cup with the food in it, up-end the cup to eat the food, and return the empty cup to your hands - if you are quick enough to take it from him. Too funny! Great place to spend a few hours. Very clean and very helpful and kind staff.

We took my mother in law here, and we all enjoyed it as much as kids. The animals seemed well taken care of and had plenty of room to roam. It was fun feeding the animals and coming face to face with a very friendly camel! Go!
