This condo was a great deal for us to make a local getaway to South Padre Island except for two major drawbacks. The most important drawback was that there is no real handicap access to this condo. The closest access to the condo was via some steep steps, that led to paver stones. This is definitely not wheelchair accessible, but we did not ask for a handicap accessible location, so it is only important if you plan to bring someone that will require the access.
The second issue was the need for repairs/maintenance, mostly on the exterior of the entire complex. The stucco was falling in many areas and there was a constant chirp which I found to be the complex's fire alarm system with an error code visibly displayed the entire weekend. There was a large vase in the dining area with a large crack and chunk missing. We just put this away to avoid any children cutting themselves. The ice in the freezer smelled like fish. We emptied it, but the new batches still smelled. This could be due to it being a beach, it could be due to an old filter, or an old fridge. The beach umbrellas we found in the laundry closet were also broken.
Now for the great stuff. The service was great from Padre Getaways. If we were staying longer, I am sure they would've addressed the issues I mentioned aside from the handicap access. The condo was huge! 3 spacious rooms with kings in 2 rooms and 2 twin beds in the 3rd. The only downside to the 3rd, "common" bathroom was that there are split doors leading to the 3rd bedroom that leave a gap where you can see into the bathroom. The pool was fun and the hot tub was great. The complex was quiet and gated. We did only get 2 parking spots per condo. We didn't use the gas BBQ pit outside on the private patio. We did use the washer and dryer inside the condo and they worked great. We drove to local restaurants for several of our meals, but also bought groceries from the local grocery store for the in-between meals. The dinner table sat 8 with 4 bar stools to use at the bar next to the table.
The beach was easy to get to, but due to my physical limitations, we did not walk. Just north of the condo is a hotel with public access to the beach just north of it. It would be walking distance for most people. There is also access about a block north of that at Clayton's. This is the Bar/Restaurant that also puts on fireworks shows. The days vary by season, but we caught them from the public beach on Saturday. This was the beach that was walking distance.
Overall, we would likely stay again due to the positives of this condo. I would love to see the owners/management update/fix the negatives, but if they maintained the condo as is, we would likely stay again due to the price and the size. If the owners/management fixed these issues, this location would warrant a 5.
I am only including pictures of the issues I mentioned, because the owner provided pictures are accurate and represent all the good points of the condo.
