This place was redone post hurricane and its such a little hidden gem! We spent about an hour there and would have liked to stay more but it was hot outside. The inside is more of an educational center then an aquarium. They do have a few tanks with interesting fishes but they also have fun interactive areas for the kids teaching them about fishing etc. The outside grounds are beautiful to walk and they have a pier and they are next to the jetties where you can see sea turtles and dolphins. It was a great short outing for kids
This was great!
Close up view of creatures and fish, hands-on tank, educational fun activities, and great staff. We'll definitely go back.
As an extension of the university the museum is both entertaining and educational. The static displays and hands-on presentations are very informative. The aquariums are just cool!
It was a cooler blustery day, so indoor activities were on the agenda. This is a great way to spend an hour or so, looking at some of the live displays in tanks, as well as all the associated information presented in wall displays and dioramas. Very informative and interesting, and it’s free, by the way. There’s also a short outdoor wetland walk adjacent to the building which only took a few minutes, but was also interesting and informative. Unfortunately their animal rescue and rehab centre wasn’t open to the public today, so didn’t have the opportunity to take that in.
We went with family and had a good time. It has good information about the island and a few fun activities for kids. We enjoyed the walking trail too.
The main center is still under repair. Attached to it is the Amos Rehabilitation Keep or ARK which rescues and rehabilitates turtles, owls, and shorebirds. They offer a twice weekly guided tour which is amazing. Educational and inspiring- the volunteers who run it very experienced, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about their work with the animals. Not to be missed !
