Description: Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years. Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building. Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.

It was worth the waist. The food was very good and so was our view! Great place to hang out and listen to music while waiting to be seated!

I have visited the Gristmill several times. It's a great place to come for lunch after church on Sunday or to bring guests when they're in town. The Gristmill has a nice atmosphere, although it can get really hot in the summer, and it has good service. Although the waits can be really long (as long as 2 hours!) there is a nice waiting area and their staff have an organized system of making sure everyone is seated in the order they arrived. I would recommend this place for kids and families.

I had the pleasure of a late lunch at the Gristmill on a crisp spring day. The beauty of the day rivaled the meal experience.

The sun was shinning in a clear blue sky with a slight breeze, we had a short wait in the pecan grove while enjoying a margarita on the rocks. (Awww, it was awesome!)

I enjoyed the grilled chicken entree and a side of vegetables - YUMMY! The chicken was so tender and moist, the knife was entirely unnecessary.

The awesome spring day, the food and the company made this experience outstanding.

I was visiting with some cousins that I had not seen in over 40 years and this restaurant was suggested as meet up point. It's located in back of Gruene Dance Hall and is under the water towel in Gruene, Texas. I had never had chicken fried steak and it was suggested that I try it here. The food was excellent and we sat outside along the Guadalupe River. Wonderful afternoon!

Historic district New Braunfels, taste, fun, experimenting, too crowded but worth it. Be patient it pays off.
