This is an outstanding campsite for some but may not be to everyone's taste. If you are looking for a large campsite with a swimming pool and plenty of entertainment this is not the campsite you are looking for. However, if you are visiting the Black Forest hoping to find peace, quiet and an unspoiled environment this might just be what you are looking for.
The campsite is located just north of Alpirsbach, a 15-20 minute walk from the town centre and therefore very convenient for visits to Lidl or the famous brewery. Although the road and railway are a short distance from the campsite we were unaware of their noise and were more aware of the noise of the stream passing beside us whilst the steeply wooded hillside rose on the other side of the stream from the campsite.
The campsite is small but has large unmarked pitches and there is a small static presence. The showers, toilets etc appear rustic from the outside but appear to have recently been refurbished internally and are more than adequate. There is a small restaurant/ bar adjacent to the site Reception, although we didn't use it. The Reception also has a small shop with basic supplies and bread can be ordered each day.
On arrival we were met and greeted by a very friendly young man who spoke a little English whilst we were able to speak a little German - so we managed just fine! Impressively all adults are greeted with a bottle of local beer of their choice - a nice touch. Eco-credentials are good at this site with various bins allowing all manner of waste items to be recycled.
This is a site which is highly recommended by us - but it may not suit everyone!
