Just back from a week in Chalet Etoile and skiing in La Plagne. Easy booking process with Mat and great email communication. Sally manages the chalet locally and was in touch just before we left with access instructions and advice during the week.
The chalet is in Crete Cote, a small collection of chalets just below Plagne 1800. The chalet sits uphill from the main road and looks out to Mt Blanc.
The chalet if picture perfect, in and out, and is spacious and warm. The entrance has storage for outdoor clothing while the garage has a headed rack for ski gear and storage for skis.
The bedrooms are on the 1st floor and are all spacious and have large wardrobes. Master has ensuite bathroom while the rest share 2 shower rooms. The 2nd floor has an open plan kitchen, dining and living area and the small single bedroom and WC. There's not a huge amount of kitchen cupboards but we managed to store enough food to SC for 8 for the week. Diswasher and American FF were great. The supermarket E.Leclerc in Aime is fantastic with everything you will need including wine at €3,500 if you fancy it!
We didn't miss Wi-Fi as took a laptop, an HDMI cable and a hard drive with movies and enjoyed movie nights on the large TV. We all had 4g mobile connection so we're able to keep in touch. The sofas are large and comfy but showing signs of age.
We were always warm in the chalet and didn't use the wood burner as no wood to burn or buy.
There were no basics when we arrived such as hand wash in the loos, washing up liquid or cleaning products so add that to your shopping list.
While we were there we had loads of snow fall. The teams work round the clock to keep the roads and the piste open.
The free ski bus stops at Crete Cote and runs every hour. It's a short but steep walk to and from the main road and the chalet. There is a small lane beside the bus stop that took us, in the morning, to La Roche slope with a final steep red run to the chairlift which then accessed the rest of the resort. Paradiski is an enormous area to cover with a variety of places to explore. La Plagne central is a bit of a bottle neck and can get very busy.
We were a group of 8 staying and loved the chalet but found the location a challenge. Having a car is the easiest way to get around and parking either at La Roche (free) or in La Plagne. The chalet is excellent value for money and very comfortable. Thanks Mat and Sally.
Fabulous stay during February half term. 3 adults and 5 children accomodated easily with room for 2/3 more. Chalet Etoile is spacious and comfortable with a high standard of equipment and great views including Mont Blanc.
Some may miss Wifi (our teens did at first) but we found it a relief from the distraction and enjoyed plenty of board games and some British telly available on the decoder.
Beds are large and comfortable and there's plenty of storage for ski paraphernalia.
We caught the 12 past ski bus each morning (across the road) which had us in Plagne centre in ten minutes though the red run down to La Roche lift would be a good option for non-beginners. Return busses were every half hour from Plagne centre. The Spar shop in Plagne is well stocked so really there's no need to use the car once you've arrived. If you want to visit the Plagne villages in the evening, the free shuttle busses run til late.
Skiing around La PLagne was excellent, loads of fun blues for beginners and speedy intermediates alike. Didn't get onto the reds/blacks but plenty to keep all happy.
All in all, Chalet Etoile is perfect for two families, close to the resort and high enough to ski in/out if able. Would highly recommend.
Just had week at Chalet Etoile. In terms of the skiing, it was excellent with great weather and snow and the chalet is pretty much ski in ski out, albeit need to be reasonable skiers. Skied Paradiski 5/6 times and superb area and we highly rate.
In terms of the Chalet. It was warm and spacious and nicely laid out with everything that we wanted. It had excellent facilities and the open plan layout was exactly what we were looking for. The bedrooms were all decent sized. There was plenty of storage area for skis and boots. In short it was perfect for us and I would highly recommend. In fact, we have already booked our holiday back next year.
Two observations, one of which is nothing to do with chalet. The road up to the chalet was extremely icy and I needed to put snow socks on to get down as went into full slide, which on the gradient was a bit of a test and quite scary!?. Whoever has responsibility for road could do with getting some grit out. The second one is more on behalf of teeenage children, that being there was no wifi in the chalet. This was like the end of the world for them. If at all possible, wifi would be a big bonus!!
In summary, booking was easy and pleasant. Chalet was perfect, clean and well laid out and holiday was brilliant.
We hadn't been back to the la Plagne for a few years, but as expected it didn't disappoint. Fantastic weather coupled with great accommodation. The chalet is really spacious with good cooking and bathroom facilities. Easy access via the La Roche chair and we found the conditions made it virtually ski in/ski out. Sitting at around 1800 means that the snow stays pretty solid even when heading back at the end of a warm day.
Definitely recommend. Housed two families with ease. Back again next year, already booked.
We stayed in this chalet in march 2016 with a family with 3 kids (8, 10 & 13y) and one elder lady. We found the chalet on TripAdvisor, all communication went via TripAdvisor and it worked wonderfully well and fast. The communication was fast and prompt.
We found the chalet exactly as described and on the pictures !
It was spacious and very comfortable. In a nice and quiet area but yet close to the slopes, the busstop, the skilift and some shops. The house was in an excellent shape, it really felt like home.
Downstairs two garages (which we did not use every day but we did use them however), in one of the garages shoes and skis can be stored. There is also a heating so everything is nice and warm in the morning. Also a washing machine and dryer is in the house.
On the first floor are all the bedrooms (but one): 2 3-p bedrooms and 2 2-p bedrooms, as well as 3 bathrooms. On the topfloor is the spacious living room with 3 comfortable couches, a huge TV (english channels), DVD player, there are boardgames in the house, a nice and VERY comfy woodstove (wood can be bought in the valley), the kitchen with an enormous fridge, an oven, microwave, waterboiler, dishwasher etc. ON the topfloor is also a toilet and a 1-p bedroom (we did not use).
The heating is working very well in the whole house, we were sooo comfortable !
One week before departure we were contacted with further instructions on how to enter the house and that also worked very well.
The only thing we missed was internet, which is something we did miss. IT was not a surprise however, the owner did tell us in advance there was no internet. Hopefully it will be added soon, it would make the house perfect !
It was our first time we rented a house via TripAdvisor and it was a more than pleasant experience. We are considering renting again next year, really really good !
Oh and please: do NOT forget snowchains for the car, we had so much snow we really needed them, it is not possible to reach the house by car with that amount of snow (that is: the last 100 meters, uphill, to the house.)
