This hotel is the best choice outside the island. Nice, clean and good service. You also have a great view of the island. The boat tour picks you up on the lake side of the hotel. And most important part of the rooms is they have great A/C.

A few friends and I back packed through Belize and into Guatemala. We decided to book a nice hotel for our final day before heading to the airport. The hotel was as described and had an amazing view of Peten Lake. We arrived looking like dirty hitch-hikers and noticed a bit of hesitation from the host. I presented my credit card and reservation number and the host quickly informed me that my reservation was for 3 guests and not 4 as listed on my reservation. He tried to book another room for the extra guest but my reservation listed a room for 4 and not 3. I was charged an additional $20 for my “extra” guest.

The following day we took an early tour to Tikal and arrived ravenous so we cleaned up and proceeded to their restaurant for lunch. The host quickly scanned us and let us know there were not enough tables and asked us to sit outside. There were quite a few empty tables so I found this weird. Another guy asked us if we wanted to sit inside and led us to a table. We ordered appetizers and drinks as we had dinner plans set up for that evening. The dishes for the four people that arrived after us were served first. We waited 43 mins before asking our waiter where our food was. I felt there was a bit of classist profiling going on. The majority of the people in the restaurant were in business attire so we assumed we were being annexed for being in hiking clothing.

In addition, we decided to extend our stay our a few extra hours in order to avoid walking into Flores with our hiking gear. The host quoted me $100qzl per hour so we agreed and decided to stay an additional 4 hours. We visited their pool and a hotel employee asked us to please exit the pool as a private party was arriving soon. We exited the pool and went to our room. Upon check out we were charged a different rate than we agreed to.

So in short, save yourself the hassle if you don’t look like a high class member of society.

We spent a night here during our vacation in Guatemala.
We found the Hotel Casona del Lago very lovely. The rooms were clean, spacious, the grounds and property very well kept. Best of all there was air conditioning, which we found a lot of the small hotels lack! Also, has free wifi.
As far as the food goes, we just had a quick breakfast on our way out, it was good.
The hotel is walking distance to a mall and some restaurants.

Room Tip: Hotel does have adjoining rooms.

Pool, lobby, descent size clean rooms. We requested a king. Descent food too. Seemed pretty professional. Air Condionded!!! We are not in to the bohemian hostel feeling that seems so popular with younger tourists in Guatemala. After touring the island of Flores, I was happy to have this hotel just over the bridge. Likely much more quiet. Honestly after out 6 am flight and hiking Tikal, happy for a refreshing swim, drink in the (warm) jacuzzi, and eat in the hotel. Our guide didn’t recommend swimming in that area of the lake and the Flores area, as he thought the water would be dirty.

We stayed 3 nights in room 21.
Nice view to Flores from the room.
Friendly staf, good breakfast, fast wifi and clean room.
Some noice from traffic and Flores. The pool is small.
You Can Wall to Flores in 10 minutes.
