We stayed here for a long weekend and were very impressed! The campground is clean with ample space, and the staff is helpful and friendly. Our dog enjoyed the fenced-in dog park area, and we liked having the gated entrance which is locked at night. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Townsend!

This is a family owned & operated, gated campground, and the family takes a great deal of pride in keeping it a place where families of all ages can enjoy! There is a Pirate Ship and a splash pad for children to play on; a fire pit and a pavilion for groups and a fenced area for dogs to romp. On Sunday mornings a. Young man conducts Bible Study in the Pavilion. And the setting is awesome, mountain views, an idyllic pasture, and a bubbling river surround it. Big Meadow is a peaceful oasis.

We just returned from our first 4-night stay at Big Meadow. To say we enjoyed our time would be an understatement. The staff was warm, helpful and friendly. They were always available to answer questions about good places to eat or places to visit. We stayed along the river and really liked it. We will be back!

The campground is very neat and clean and everyone was helpful and nice. It is right next to river rat tubing company and also has creek side spots to stay. Everything seemed well maintained and it does have a gated entrance and exit. I would recommend this campground as a great place to stay if in the Townsend area and is very convenient to the main road and bike path.

This is an extremely nice, well-maintained property. We were in spot #13 which is close to the road and across from the river. We weren't sure about being so close to the road and the entrance into the facility, however once we were there we didn't mind it. We were meeting family there and requested two spots next to each other. The owners happily obliged. We ran a fan at night while we were sleeping and didn't really hear any noise from the road or other campers. The park was peaceful and pretty quiet in general throughout our stay. We did hear the occasional church bells from a nearby church during the day, but it was not overly loud, and actually quite pleasant.

The river across the street was surprisingly clean. Our group rented inner tubes from The River Rat which is right next door to the campground and floated down the river one day. The trip took about two hours from start to finish. The water was very cold but felt good since the temperatures were in the high 80's to low 90's all week. The river is very rocky and there were several areas where you had to get out of your tube and walk in the river because it was so shallow you couldn't float through the rocks. I recommend you wear swim shoes or the like and not flip flops to help navigate the rocky areas. Definitely wear some sunglasses because the sun is very bright and reflects off the water.

We stayed here six nights and were very impressed with the friendly, helpful nature of the owners, the other campers, and all the local people we encountered. The spot where we stayed (#13) was a nice, level concrete pad. It was a back-in spot and very tricky to get into. The owner said it was probably the hardest spot in the park to maneuver. He offered to park the trailer for us and we agreed. He did a superb job getting the trailer situated into the spot with the help of his son. He had obviously done it many times and we were appreciative of his help. The location of our spot was very close to the exit and a fence which is what made it a bit tricky. We had no problem with the owners help, however a larger trailer might not be appropriate for this spot. Our trailer is about 29 feet long and fit just fine.

All the spots have a picnic table, fire ring, and at least one tree for shade. It rained off and on all but one day while we were there but we had no problems. The entire park seems well drained. We walked through the park and didn’t notice any flooding, standing water, etc. The grounds are immaculately maintained. The grass was mowed and the landscaping was lovely. The bathroom/shower facilities were clean. There is a laundry facility, a small store, and a covered pavilion which is used for a religious service on Sunday. There is a basketball court, a children’s playground, and a children’s water splash area on site.

There are many nice restaurants and shops nearby. Just down the road is a woodcarver’s shop with many very impressive carvings on display and for sale. There is an IGA grocery, gas station, Dollar General Store, Ace Hardware Store, and many more shops very close by. There is even a car wash with an RV wash area nearby. Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Cades Cove and more are all close by. If you are staying in the area I highly recommend Big Meadow Family Campground. You won’t be disappointed!
