“Poorly maintained and cramped, poor layout”

We had 12 of us (less on some days) staying here for a week. The good - the cabin is nice with knotty pine throughout that is very attractive and nice bear-themed decorations throughout. When we called about problems, the response was very good and quick. It is in a very good location near the park. That is about it. There are a lot of small and not so small maintenance issues with this place as well as huge layout issues. First, at the bottom of the balcony as you look out into the trees, there are garden hoses, a wheelbarrow, trash, a rake and other maintenance items just laying on the ground which completely spoils the otherwise nice view. The upstairs master bathroom shower door does not close and leaks water all over the floor for each shower. The grill is rickety, broken and falling apart and we had to find a slope of ground to prop it up so it would not fall over during use. The coffee maker broke (we did get a replacement quickly) and the toaster knob kept falling off leaving exposed circuitry inside. The foosball table is complete trash - when I touched the scoring rack the first time it fell off of the table. The balls that go in the goal fall to the floor and roll wherever. Several of the players heads fall off or are missing. The pool table is badly stained and worn and the cues are garbage as well. The upstairs separate bathroom door handle only opens in one direction and my son got stuck inside briefly while we were thinking it was locked. Nope handle broke. The handles on the drawers throughout the entire cabin are loose and a couple just fell off in my hand when I tried to use them. Wasp nests were located under the balcony and under the eaves of the hot-tub (we bought some wasp spray). Now the bad part, the kitchen island is awkwardly positioned so that you can only open the refrigerator door about 45 degrees before you hit the island. You cannot open a drawer on the island with the fridge door open. Also the kitchen is ridiculously cramped for a cabin that sleeps 12. The living room looks sizable on the fish eye lens used to take the publicity shot but is equally crazy-small for a 12 person cabin. There are 2 couches in the living room and the door to the balcony hits a couch when opened unless you move the couches in front of the bedroom door. There is only a 6-person kitchen table and 2 seats at the counter for dining. Although, if people are at the counter, it becomes really cramped to walk around them or to use the counter for kitchen prep. The pullout couch is extremely uncomfortable so folks just slept on the couch itself. The beds are old and uncomfortable and make a lot of noise - the foot board in upstairs bedroom rocked back and forth as it was missing bolts to hold it on and seemed like it would fall off. The bedroom TVs were old, small CRT types that were awful. The one flat screen picture was not good either. Lastly, could not get the gas fireplace to work as well. Most of these problems are just the management company doing a poor job keeping up with this place but the layout is a joke for this cabin. I would look elsewhere in Wears Valley for nice rentals as it is a good location to the park and/or Pigeon Forge/Sevierville/Gatlinburg.

“Exceeded Our Expectations”

If you are expecting the Bellagio this is not it. If you are expecting a nice vacation cabin in a great area with an awesome view, this IS it. We had seven of us in our group who used this cabin as our base while we headed out into GSMNP and the surrounding areas of Pigeon Forge and Gattlinburg. The price for this four bedroom (three plus one kids) cabin was comparable to other two bedroom cabins in the area. We have rented houses in the past for our family vacations so we know "vacation houses" are going to be a bit dated and are not going to have the best decorating (unless of course you are willing to pay top dollar). The decorating mainly consisted of black bears. We all took a guess as to how many there were (not including fabric) and we counted 129 of them throughout the home. But honestly they were perfect for the area and did complement the cabin. All 129 of them!

That being said, a few things could be replaced such as the blinds and comforters (The sheets and pillows were fine.), the pool table felt, the grill, and the trash picked up below the deck, and this would make a big difference. The bones of the cabin were great. A fairly large great room easily accomodated our group of seven, and each bedroom had its own large bathroom. The cabin was fairly clean although we did have to wipe down and pick up a few things. The attention to detail could have been a bit better. The kitchen supplies were average to sparse but from our past experience we did expect this and brought a tub of our own items. The washer and dryer worked satisfactory as did the dishwasher. The grill was trashed so we called and it was replaced right away. The hot tub was great. The furniture and beds were good. The house was in a really pleasant quiet gated neighborhood, and it was nice to be a short drive (8miles) from the congestion and chaos of Pigeon Forge. Wear Valley was great! It was much more "laid back" than the much more "touristy" Pigeon Forge. The cabin was one mile from one of the entrances to GSMNP where we took advantage of dayhiking and site seeing. We did zip line and white water raft in the area. As far as meals we had all of our breakfasts and most of our dinners there at the cabin which worked out really well with the open kitchen great room. It was a nice place to meet.

I know I have somewhat "knit picked" the property, and I did this just to share my perspective. But the cabin generally was very nice, as was the neighborhood and town in which itwas located. Overall I would recommend the place, and I would give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars, and if I ever decide to go back to the area I would stay here again. It worked out great for us.

“Very secluded privite 4 bed room cabin on the very top of a mountain.”

This was the third time I've taken my friends and family to Gate Way To Heaven. The cabin is on top of a very high mountain,in a private gated area. You have to have a password to open the iron gates to enter this cabin property. Gate Way to Heaven is at the top of a very large mountain. There's 4 bed rooms with enough beds to sleep 12 people.Awesome game room down stairs with 2 bed rooms. On the top floor there's two bed rooms that open up to walk out to the deck. Where there's a hot tub that extends out with a gazebo roof over the top.I've stay at several cabins over the last ten years at Sugar Maple Cabins. By far Gate Way To Heaven is the most secluded cabin with the most beautiful peaceful view of the maintains of any cabin. There is no other cabins near by.The only thing you might see is a quarrel, fox,or bear. If you want to get away to a very private secluded cabin on top of the mountain.Take your friends and family to Gate Way To Heaven.
