Owner description: PICTON CASTLE AND GARDENS A Magical Day Out for all the FamilySituated close to the Cleddau Estuary Picton Castle and Gardenscomprise 40 acres of some of the most beautiful gardens and grounds surrounding the great 13th century castle. Much like the castle building itself, the gardens of Picton are a fusion over many centuries of different gardening styles and periods. The gardens are now acknowledged as one of the most beautiful and atmospheric in Wales and on the strength of the collections are a Royal Horticultural Society Partner Garden.

This place isn't exactly a budget visit but the tour of the castle was conducted by a very informative and helpful tour guide. Weather was such we didn't tour the main gardens but did visit the Secret Owl Garden and thought this exceptional. There are over 20 birds, clearly healthy and well kept. Apparently almost all are allowed out to fly in the garden each day. We were privileged to see Orchid, a beautiful barn owl, flying around us. We were even invited to take the keeper's glove and had Orchid land and sit patiently on the glove for some minutes. A wonderful experience. The keepers were knowledgable and very friendly. Admittedly we visited on a quiet day which may have helped our enjoyment of the owls but would highly recommend the Secret Owl Garden in particular. There is a rather bizzare Spanish themed restaurant but the food was tasty too!

EASTER RIP OFF AT PICTON CASTLE Narberth Pembrokeshire. NO EASTER EGGS!!! If you're in S.W. Wales and in particular Pembrokeshire over Easter. Don't take your children to the Easter Egg Trail in Picton Castle, unless you want disappointed children. You children are set the task of finding letters not Eggs, then their reward is still no easter egg!! just a tiny bag containing 3 little mini eggs and a miniature note book!! One family paid a £70 entrance fee to end up with disappointed children.

For the cost for winter entry then we had a great time and worth every penny. However must admit i wouldn’t go in summer and pay £10 per head as I would feel ripped off.
