“Perfect place to stay and explore North Wales”
Reviewed 23 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We were a mixed age, mixed gender group from 30 to almost seventy and the house suited us to a T. The kitchen and main living room were huge-- perfect places to gather for meals, and share our thoughts and daily pictures ( one of our members was a whiz at up loading all our pictures to the house computer). Wi-Fi meant we could check and send emails.
Bedrooms were very comfortable and two bathrooms one with a shower and the other with a tub showe. Cell service did not work there because of the surrounding mountains but we could make calls from nearby Beddgelert. The mountains were part of the charm. The back gardens were arranged in terraces going up the wooded hill behind. Across from the house rose another high hill with sheep and spring lambs grazing on vivid green fields beneath a charming farm. We even got to see a sheep dog working the sheep when we looked out our windows one morning.
The house was a great place to make day trips to various parts of Wales-- Beddgelert for pub meals and light shopping, north to Anglesey, south as far as Borth and to LLanberis for the Mountain Railway train to the top of mount Snowdon. We were on a literary tour so visits to Cader idris ( Arthurs chair) and Bryn Myrddin ( Merlin's Hill) along with various places mentioned in fantasy books.( Among them Susan Cooper's The Grey King, Nancy Bond's A String in the Harp and the Welsh Mabinogion.) And we're sure that the cave at the Dolgoch Falls holds the Sleeping Arthur and his knights.

Liked best: The entire week.
Liked least: Stairs were a bit hard for the sixty-nine-year old to climb and both bathrooms were on the second floor.

Wayfarers in Wales Wowed!
A group of 8 of us (graduate students and professors) traveled to Wales to look at the landscape of children’s literature set in that country. We chose Glyn Awel to be our base of operations because of its location and because it could accommodate all of us together. This lovely cottage met all our expectations and exceeded them. This cottage has been renovated to include all the modern conveniences but retains the character and interest of the original structures. Further it is decorated with lovely watercolors and paintings and interesting pieces of furniture throughout. It is spacious with many rooms so that people could find places to be by themselves or to be in small groups. In the mornings we could all comfortably sit around the kitchen table to eat and in the evenings we could all meet in the large living room to view pictures of our travels on the large screen TV. One evening several of us prepared dinner for everyone and found the kitchen to be well stocked with all the dishes we needed to cook and serve our group as well as fresh herbs growing outside in the beautiful gardens that climb up the hill behind the cottage. Amazingly we never ran out of hot water, and Nia (the owner) even provided us with towels as we were travelling from the US and had limited luggage space. The only negative comment about Glyn Awel I heard during the week of our stat was that there was not a pub next door!
