Description: The Rendezvous, founded by Charlie Vergos in 1948, started out as an 80 seat tavern serving ham and cheese sandwiches. When Charlie cleaned out the basement beneath his diner, he discovered a coal chute and started a barbecue legend. He developed a unique seasoning fusing his Greek heritage with spices he enjoyed from New Orleans. Mr. Charlie was a collector and hung antiques, memorabilia, and artwork on the walls. This, along with a soulful jukebox, lively waiters, and aromas from the kitchen helped him to create an atmosphere unequalled in the city of Memphis. Today, the restaurant is still in the Vergos family and run by Mr. Charlie's three kids. The ribs still taste the same as they did in the beginning. Ribs are the Rendezvous' specialty. While Rendezvous is famous for its ribs, don't overlook the other items on the menu. From the beef brisket to the pulled pork shoulder sandwich everything is excellent and well seasoned. We take reservations for parties of 8 or more.

for years I've heard about this place and had a desire to come and eat the dry rub ribs that they're so well known for. it is not difficult to get to but if you use google maps it's not perfectly clear where the "real" entrance is. the place is HUGE. we had no trouble getting a seat at a very popular dinner time. greeted by our server promptly who got us drinks and took our orders. we ALL ordered the ribs. none of us were impressed. in fact, we were all very much underwhelmed. ribs come with slaw and beans...didn't eat those but the others aid they were good. given the countless other options for bbq in Memphis i would not come back here nor would i suggest to friends to come here.

Hi Phil,

We are so sorry not to have met your expectation. You are right - our place is a little hard to find on your first visit, and, it is huge - over the past 70 years, our family's spot has grown from a 70 seat tavern to now seating 750. We are sorry you didn't enjoy the ribs. Ours our definitely a different style of ribs than a lot of others. As much as we hate it, our family sadly knows we can't be everyone's favorite :). We are glad your friends enjoyed the sides. We do have lots of other menus items - brisket, half chicken, lamb, pork shoulder, cheese and sausage plates - to name a few. It sounds like you won't be back down, but if you do, come grab one of us, we'd love offer other suggestions besides the ribs - if those aren't your thing.

If you are a BBQ lover, the Rendezvous is a "Must Do" if traveling to Memphis. Never mind the location (it is down an alley). The restaurant is down a flight of stairs in the basement. I didn't see an elevator so I can't say that it is Handicap Accessible.
We arrived about 6 P.M. and were greeted warmly. As we were taken to our table I noticed only a few customers. Before we left, the place was packed. Our server was quick with taking our order and delivery of our meals. When asked, he also suggested what he would order.
Rendezvous is well known for their dry rub ribs. They are wonderful! They also have excellent brisket and pulled pork.

I have been wanting to eat here for over a decade! I had read all the negative TA reviews and was a tad skeptical. First, the location is actually in the back alley. Be prepared to be approached by homeless. Second, there’s quite a bit of smoke inside the restaurant. Third, order the ribs and you’ll be in hog heaven!

I decided on the half slab with beans and coleslaw. My ribs were less meaty than the rest of my family. Still they had an amazing taste and flavor. The sauce paired extremely well with them. And the beans and coleslaw were also tasty.

I’m glad I finally ate here and will definitely return!

Went on a Friday night, a bit of a wait, but worth it. The place smelled awesome and the food didn't disappoint. If you come to Memphis don't skip this place

This was my first visit to Memphis, and was told The Rendezvous was a "must visit". Glad we took an Uber ride over, because parking is difficult in this part of town. Our party of 6 arrived about 7:30 pm and were promptly seated and attended to. The waiter didn't even have to write down our order! The sausage & cheese appetizer was outstanding. The ribs are great. The Greek salad also was very good. Enjoyed the vibe and interesting wall decor.
