I've been there several times now, Beale Street is blocked off to vehicle traffic but on Wednesday evenings motorcycle riders bring their bikes in and line the streets. Even if you're not a bike enthusiast, you should enjoy the show. You will find people and bikes of every sort imaginable; truly beautiful graphics on tanks, rat bikes, bikes lit up in neon, trikes, decked out bicycles, people doing acrobatics, street artists and so on. And don't worry about your personal safety, cops are always around. I talked to several city cops and they said that actually bike night was the least problematic night of the week. There's plenty of great food to be had, great music and you will find that in most cases, even the toughest looking bikers are friendly, hard working folks just like the rest of us. When a person has $30,000+ invested in a bike, you know that person isn't a bum. In addition, at night the neon street signs and lit up bikes make for some great photographic opportunities.

The music is pretty loud at night! But worth having a look. Or you can go during the day. Plenty of souvenir shops there.

Highly recommended to visit Beale street in Memphis where you can pick and choose what kind of music that will trigger your fancy. Loads of restaurants to choose and dine in, Shopping, and Entertainment. If you love music you can stroll up and down on this street, pick the bar and enjoy the band awesome place

We were a little unsure about visiting Beale Street, but as visitors from the UK we could not go to Memphis and not do. We decided to make our visit in the early afternoon and I am glad we did, on first arriving a lady warned us to be very careful as in her words 'there were some bad people about' we had a chat with her and found out some history and information from her, but she did seem very concerned for us and our safety. We took her advice but did throughly enjoy our afternoon there, the food we had was great and if you don't mind drinking your cocktails out of plastic cups (I didn't) all was fine. We enjoyed browsing the shops then decided to leave before 6pm, as it was getting busy and the atmosphere was changing, people were hassling you for cash and it started to feel a little intimating for us. But we were really glad we visited, some of the locals weren't very friendly but that wasn't a problem for us.

I love that they block of th streets so people can just walk around freely. The lights, music and people create a fun energy. The police presence and them doing security checks makes if very safe.
