“Child and Pet friendly”
Reviewed 2 August 2017 for a stay in July 2017

Grandchildren enjoyed staying on a farm with a swimming pool. Cottage close to Wigtown with local shops. Great place to use as a base to explore the area's beeches, coastal walks, New Galloway forest walks and the SDSO (Scottish dark sky observatory) is a must. I highly recommend the area and Courtyard cottages for a great family holiday even lazy days sitting and listening to the cows and chickens having their say was a great experience for our grandchildren who live in the city.
Hope to return.

“Quiet, peaceful and plenty nearby to do and see”
Reviewed 28 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Stayed in the smaller cottage for one week (Garden Cottage). It was just perfect. Had a little trouble finding the road out of Wigtown which led to them but one phone call to Ian and Hazel and I was there in minutes. Had asked ahead of leaving if it was OK to bring the dog along, which it was. The cottage had one main room with a bedroom and bathroom leading off it. Had no problems obtaining the keys as Ian was there to meet and greet me and showed me round the cottage, how to use the heating, where the larger freezer and laundry facilities were, and a bunch of leaflets of things in the area and a little beyond. There was a little booklet in the cottage put together by Ian and Hazel which gave details of restaurants in the area, beaches and walks nearby and another page with places to go a little further afield. Also had a couple of handy maps in it too!! Bonus! The cottage was perfect and had a welcome basket of wood and kindling for the wood stove, but I didn't need to use it.. Pretty much everything provided that you could need including towels and bedding, plus a few things in the kitchen like dish washing liquid, cloths and scourers, tin foil, paper towels, tea towel, tea, coffee and sugar!! How good is that!! The area itself is very quiet and peaceful with only the birds and farm cows giving the odd moo here and there. One or two cars went by on the road outside but I hardly noticed them. Hazel and Ian were very friendly and accommodating hosts, telling me to have a wander round their farm if I wished, and to come and ask them if there was anything they could help with. I would upload some pics but the file size is apparently too big for the site : ( A beautiful place to stay and relax. Highly recommended!! Will be going back for another stay.

“Lovely and peaceful but with plenty to do out and about.”

The cottage had everything we needed to enjoy our stay, Wi-Fi and the swimming pool was a bonus. Although the cows were near to the cottage we didn't hear them very much. It was easy to access the cottage and park right outside. Laundry room was useful and also contained leaflets on places nearby. My two had a great day out at Laggon Activity centre which took 30 minutes in the car to get to. Wigtown was quiet but Newton Stewart (5 miles) had more to offer from a small town. All in all a brilliant holiday.

“Relaxing & Family Friendly”
Reviewed 11 February 2015 for a stay in September 2014

We enjoyed our stay at the Granary Cottage last September very much and are looking forward to staying again. The cottage was great with patio doors and a lovely picnic table where we could easily see our child playing on the swings which allowed him a great degree of freedom whilst at the same time being in view. Our eight year old son loved feeding the chickens and it was funny to watch them following him around. It is the kind of holiday that leaves you with happy memories such as our son learning to go a bike in the barn. After that there was no stopping him as we hired a bike in the Galloway Forest and off he went cycling for miles. The swimming pool was an added bonus as our son loves swimming and couldn't wait each day to get in there. We really had a super time and although we were on holiday for a month travelling all over the UK some of our fondest times were spent at Granary Cottage and the surrounding area where there is an abundance of stuff to see and do. Castle Douglas was great to visit and we loved the shops. I tried liquorice ice cream. Yum! We visited a castle, went to a local market and we even saw a wicker man in a field. For us this holiday was a great combination as we could relax at Granary Cottage which is situated on a working farm with lots of animals or we could choose from a whole range of sight seeing trips/activities to visit in the local area. We would also like to say how friendly and helpful the owner Hazel was which adds to the whole holiday experience. We look forward to staying again.
