Cosy little cottage on the edge of a wood, greeted with freshly made pancakes, butter, home made jam, milk, sugar and tea bags, he nearly did a week shop. Bill told us to watch out for the wild life, we didn't see a thing until the last day, then we saw Red Squirrel, got some beautiful pictures which bill will see at a later date. Pubs very friendly with good food, coastline stunning, next time it will 2 weeks.
Thanks for having us Bill, will see you again.
Upon arrival at Sawmill cottage we were met by Bill the owner who handed us the keys and met our spaniel, instantly you could tell Bill was a dog and animal person, he told us of a good circular walk threw the adjoining wood. He also pointed out the box's on trees in the garden, which the red squirrels eat from and pointed out big male pheasant (George) who wanders around the garden.
Inside there was a great kitchen with everything you need for a weeks stay, infact everything you would need for any length of time.
We used the washing machine a couple of times and then hung the clothes out on the outside washing line. You get clothing smelling of fresh countryside air.
For our arrival Bill had made us some fresh Scottish drop pancakes with jam, which was nice to have with a cup of tea after traveling.
The lounge had a wood burning stove in with, nice comfortable chairs, and a nice countryside feel, which looked out on too garden.
The bedroom was nice light and airy, with nice view out towards the one of the red squirrel box's.
Beds were comfy and the whole place was nice, clean and warm.
Its dose not get much better than when your sitting eating or reading and you look up and you see deer standing just outside the window. Over the week we saw red squirrels every day, all sorts of birds and butterflies due to the fact that bill has a lovely garden which he may let you wander around. We were also given a few fresh tomatoes from bills garden.
Location is excellent it took about 15min to walk down to Portpatrick seafront, or 2 min drive. The town of Stranraer was 20 min drive away.
With castles some lovely beaches and places to visit nearby.
Bill the owner checked in with us most days to see if we needed anything and he will happily recommend places to visit and point you in the right direction of where to eat out ect.
A great stay, that was dog friendly, with wildlife outside your window, on the outskirts of the beautiful Portpatrick, with a really great helpful owner who is there to make sure your stay is enjoyable.
Thank you we will be back.
The cottage is in a great location just 10 minutes walk into town. It’s so quiet and peaceful we had a great sleep.
Bill the owner was very welcoming and helpful. It was a lovely touch to be treated with homemade pancakes, butter, jam and homegrown tomatoes. Thanks for that Bill.
The cottage has ample space for 2people, with good quality cooking pots etc if your doing any cooking.
I’ve read previous reviews about the shower not being great, no it’s not go lots of power but it is ok.
The cottage has a log burner, we didn’t use it as the weathers was ok, with the storage heaters giving enough heat.
We used the washing machine during our stay(it was great to return home with no washing to do). Bill had provided washing gel, cleaning materials and some toiletries for us to use. Another nice wee extra, thanks Bill.
We will be returning and would also recommend it to our friends and family.
our wee yorkie loved exploring the woods.
