We have stayed in many holiday houses over the years but never one where we felt we should really have an additional bill at the end of our stay !

You just need to come here to experience the best ever welcome and the attention to detail that Val and Calum provide:
Homemade scones and wonderful oatcakes, rocky road, cupcakes , freezer stocked with their own mutton ( so delicious in the slow cooker - also provided ) salmon, a coffee machine with enough pods to last all week , 2 bottles of wine and a wee decanter of Old Pultney, fresh roses and lillies , the nicest smelling fluffy towels and bed linens, everything you you need or want in a kitchen ( including a tool for shelling the lobster meat WHICH THE AMAZING VAL even cooked for us !!), kindling , wood and peat for the cosy woodburner stove, 4 shelves of wonderful books , drawers of great DVDs ( which we never actually got round to watching as the panoramic Hebridean landscape which changes with the altering light just kept capturing our attention) birds for spotting , coastal walks from the end of the road , peace , space for quiet reflection........love, love , love this place. An Taigh Clach has a 4 star rating but soars high above any of the other 4 star accommodation we have previously stayed in.
Thank you Val and Calum for your wonderful hospitality in Carloway ! You have a superb holiday home and we loved staying there . See you again I am sure !

from the minute you arrive you will feel at home. Val and Callum the owners of An Taigh Clach have put so much thought and care into providing what we felt was a 5 star cottage. Everything was perfect and of great quality. The kitchen has everything you need and more.lovely shower room with plenty of room in shower. The bed was super comfy.( too comfy some mornings ! ) At night when it got dark with some of the lamps and spotlights and candles lit and a wee peat fire burning in the stove it was very atmospheric. The views are great out over the croft and to the hills beyond and the atlantic on one side. There is a lovely garden surrounding the cottage with lots of seating options barbeques chimanea etc and there is the poshest shed ever with lots more inside. Val and Callum even provide picnic ware. What to say about that welcome pack except WOW never had anything like it from the whiskey and wine both red and white to the lovely homebaking and then theres the contents of the freezer, Salmon and their own delicious Lamb and lots of it to the very tasty crab claws and the optional extra fresh Lobster for which Val cooked and Callum gave me a masterclass in preparing, delicious. Carloway is perfectly placed to easily explore all of Lewis and even down to Harris and theres the beautiful beach at dahl mohr only a 5 minute drive away. Cant wait to get back.

“Would put most 5 star Hotels to shame”

It was 92 years ago my family left Lewis and this was a very special trip and so very far to travel from Australia. Our expectations of the island, and the island hospitality far exceeded anything I could put in words. First and foremost was our stay in An Taigh Clach – The Stone House and with the warmth and comfort of this beautiful cottage came the same warmth and comfort from our hosts Val and Callum. We have left the island with new friends. Apart from the 30 odd hours journey from Australia we felt like we were home. The weather, the environment and most of all An Taigh Clach were second to none. We were in the UK for close to 5 weeks and nothing came close to our stay at An Taigh Clach. We are indebted to Val and Callum for making this trip so special. I have never seen such hospitable people and they opened their lovely cottage in so many ways to make us feel at home. Any 5 star hotel could take a leaf from their book and learn so much in the finer points of how to treat people the “old fashion” way Thank you so much Val and Callum. If it wasn’t so far we would be back tomorrow

Quite simply the most welcoming and well equipped cottage we have ever been to. The house itself is well situated for visiting the sites and beaches of Lewis and is beautifully appointed. Val and Callum are friendly and knowledgeable and looked after us with peat burning in the log burner and a welcome pack of homemade scones and cakes, lamb and salmon in the freezer, wine and even malt whisky! 5 stars!!
