I stayed overnight at this hotel just to break my journey to Lairg the following day due to snow and ice on the roads. I had a single occupancy room which, though small, was very well appointed and exceptionally clean.
The staff were friendly and attentive, and overall I was very pleasantly surprised with the facilities.

Room Tip: Room 26 was small but had everything I needed. It was warm, had good facilities and was immaculately clean.

Had lunch at the royal, ordered a macaroni and chips and my wife ordered burger and chips from the pleasant barmaid. The room was very dated 70s 80s decor. Waited 40 minutes for lunch to be served. The macaroni was in a white sauce, no evidence of cheese apart the crusty topping. My wife was unable to eat the burger as it had a terrible taste. The barmaid took money off the bill without us having to complain. Certainly wont be back, terrible

We stayed in a superior double room in September 2017. .We didnt expect to get the room we were given which was a street facing four poster room which looked like a suite- it was huge with old fire place etc.
The hotel downstairs is lovely and traditional. We didnt eat at the hotel only because we had spotted a Curry House very close by, but we did enjoy a single malt in the bar later that night.
Sometimes its hard to call when it comes to an old hotel. It is in good condition for its age but also a bit dated and creaky. We prefer more modern clean hotels so dont let this review put you off if you like old and traditional buildings and furnishings because its a lovely old hotel. Lovely staff, great breakfast.

Very nice room, comfortable with lots of hot water. Very friendly staff in particular Ayaj. Great breakfast. Very enjoyable one night stay. Weather was awful but improved the next day. Great selection of gins.

Room Tip: Overlooking main street was fine.
