Dornie House is a house in every sense of the word, you really will be living in Mr & Mrs McLeods' home during your stay. It's not for everyone, but it was lovely for us, The furnishings are very kitsch, but comfortable and everything is in working order. The breakfasts are huge, I guarantee you'll struggle to finish! The view from the bedroom window is possibly one of the best in the UK, we opened our curtains to a view over the Summer Isles and the Isle of Lewis beyond that, spectacular!
Dornie House is located outside of the remote village of Achiltibuie and is a little difficult to find (we had to ask at the Post Office) but if you are coming this far out into the Highlands then you are probably craving the isolation. There are a couple of pubs that are just about walkable, but everything else is a hike or a drive away. The countryside here is something else. The mountains are immense plus the ease of seeing seals, deer and kestrels everyday is fantastic.
Mrs McLeod is very house proud and that extends to your room also. She is genuinely interested in all her visitors and it was a joy to stay with her. If you are after a B&B where you simply check-in and don't see the proprietor until you check-out then Dornie House isn't for you.More
