This hotel gets it right on the food front. Not a bad morsel in sight. The morning granola was a big hit.
It’s a bit pricey for what the rooms are; simple and straightforward.
The twin rooms are small and for this money I’d expect a palatial elevation over the Summer Isles.
However, it’s a well run gaff and the dining is its highlight.

Dear DLHtravels

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I am very glad to read that "we hit the spot" on the food front. I think I may be able to extract the granola recipe from Chef. Please e mail the hotel directly if you fancy DIY granola!

Our rooms come in a variety of shapes, sizes and prices. Guess we have our own respective views on pricing policy!

Best wishes

Simon Cotton

This is our third visit to the Summer Isles Hotel and again we absolutely loved it. We were worried that our trip was going to have to be cancelled but luckily not! There were a few changes this year due to the virus (in that all the tables in the dining room are spread out and the pub area isn't open to reduce risk), all things we would expect, so it was good to see that they are making us feel comfortable and safe throughout our stay.

We stayed in The Mackay room, which was beautiful. A lovely sea view, which will never get old. This was our first time staying in the actually hotel and these rooms are just as good as the ones situated on the left when you enter the hotel.

The food was all absolutely delicious! We had the choice between lots of delicious fresh fish or local meat. Having a member of our team being gluten free and a pescatarian didn't stop the good food coming out! Each meal we had in the restaurant was exceptional, please do pass on our thanks to the chef and his team!

We met the owners and their very friendly Labrador. It was great to find out more about the area and how they came take over the hotel.

Dear Jimothy, Many thanks for taking the time to write a review. It is great to welcome returning guests to the hotel and I am so pleased to read that you had a fantastic stay. I will most certainly pass on your comments to the chef and the rest of the team. In fact, I will put this review our internal notice board. Our Labrador has become a real hotel dog. She loves Achiltibuie! I look forward to your next visit. Best wishes. Simon Cotton

Lovely, attentive staff. Great food, lovely wine. Wonderful location and views.
Did well with covid restrictions.
Nibbles in lounge would have been nice but could be limited due to covid.
Breakfast was good. Homemade granola was delicious!

Dear Theodora, Many thanks for taking the time to write a review. I am very pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay. You are "spot on" with the nibbles. It just seems wrong to have a bowl of nibbles sitting in an area where guests and staff are circulating. They will make a return as soon as possible! I will let the chefs know that the granola was delicious.

Kind regards

Simon Cotton

Stayed for one night. Bedding was clean but cobwebs and spiders in both bathroom and bedroom. Very disappointing.
When management were challenged about it we were thanked for pointing it out. Owner not involved and should have been as we were not alone with the problem. Also found personal items from previous visitor in the room. Not good from a Covid perspective.

We ate there. Food ok. Wine list substantial but mostly overpriced.

Value for money. 5 out of 10. Worst place we stayed on our tour.

Dear Kevin H,

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review. Firstly, let me apologise for the cobwebs and spiders. There is no place for either in a bathroom/bedroom and the housekeeping staff have been reminded that they must "look upwards" when cleaning and inspecting all rooms. It is a simple mistake that is unlikely to be repeated. You raised the matter when settling your bill. Profuse apologies were provided and - yes - you were thanked for pointing it out. I was involved with the other member of your party as they raised the cobweb/spider issue prior to checkout which gave time for inspection, discussion and related action. I approved the related action.

All items from previous visitors should be removed from rooms. Once again, please accept my apologies that this was not the case.

All wine is supplied by Corney and Barrow. It is a 25 year + relationship between hotel and wine merchant which serves us very well. Normal size bottles of wine are priced from £22.50 to £350. We must agree to disagree on the level of pricing.

Regards

Simon Cotton

We first visited The Summer Isles Hotel some years ago, the two main attractions being its situation and reputation of excellent cuisine. Although the Hotel has since changed hands twice, under the excellent care of Manager Norbert and his staff, the welcome is as warm and natural as ever, the views from the hotel over The Summer Isles magical, the food divine....if one counts the before dinner canapés, amuse bouche and palette cleansing sorbet, with coffee to finish the courses number a bacchanalian seven!

The ambience and decor are country house, relaxing in the lounge watching the sun set, playing scrabble and enjoying the remainder of our wine was most relaxing. After sleeping soundly we rose to enjoy the extensive breakfast. Aswith dinner, most ingredients sourced locally, the eggs noticeably fresh, full cooked or kippers, eggs benedict the choice was excellent.

We saw a pair of eagles, herds of wild goats, primroses and of course the scenery is glorious at ever turn.

Dear Skypilot60, Many thanks for taking the time to write a review. It was lovely to welcome you both back to the hotel last month and interesting for us all to compare this season versus past (pre-COVID) seasons. I am not sure whether you have intentionally included your narrative from a past visit but it is a pleasant reminder of the carefree days of 2018 and 2019! Best wishes. Simon Cotton
