Our third Christmas and New Year running at Hazelgrove Cottage and our stay was still not long enough! We had a friend join us for a few days this time and he was absolutely blown away by the stunning location, the tranquility and the fantastic homely feel of it all. After having had an extremely busy year, Hazelgrove really is the complete relaxation retreat that we need and it never fails to exceed expectations. This year we seemed to have a family of grouse in the back garden on many occasions which was lovely to see. We also saw a number of deer in the area, lots of red squirrels and a variety of birds. The walks through the forest and by the loch shore are so peaceful, you almost forget that anyone else exists! I unfortunately had an unexpected admission to Raigmore hospital overnight whilst we were there but the hospital, treatment and staff were amazing which is a great comfort to know for future visits just in case. Once again, our only disappointment was the fact that we had to leave... But we will definitely be back!!! You really can't go wrong with Hazelgrove and it really does deserve all of the praise it receives.
The cottage is in a beautiful location with views of the loch. All you could need for a weeks holiday with your pooches. My 3 absolutely loved walking in the forest. The cottage has a great secure back garden with plenty of room for the dogs to have a mad run around. Lovely to sit in the living room looking at the birds at the feeders & on a couple of occasions, a red squirrel running up & down the trees outside. Didn't want to leave. Can't wait to come back next year. Thanks Fiona & Graham. You have a holiday home to be proud of.
We found Hazelgrove on Google Maps during our vacation in Scotland. The photo's on the website looked very promising. We called for the availability, booked it and drove to the place.
Everything was as good as the website promised. Also a first day's grocery package was waiting for us which is a very appreciated gesture.
From the dining table there's a great view over the Loch all the way to the ruins of the probably 1000 year old Urquhart Castle.
The cottage has complete kitchen equipment a bathroom with bath and separate shower, 2 double bed bedrooms and one single bed bedroom. The living room has a beautiful fireplace.
The cleanliness is excellent although dogs are allowed. The owners live next door and are very friendly and helpfull.
Hazelgrove cottage is beautifully located on the slopes of the hills on the east side of Loch Ness . This is the quiet side of the Loch along General Wades road which leads from Fort Augustus to Inverness.
For us Hazelgrove Cottage deserves the highest rating.
I absolutely loved my holiday at Hazelgrove. The location is perfect, elevated above Loch Ness the scenery changes on a daily basis. The cottage was a home from home and excellently equipped. A lot of thought has gone in to making it as user friendly as possible and the owners obviously take great pride in their property. Fiona popped round our first evening and we had a friendly chat. Even though they are next door I only saw Graeme once after that as we returned from a day out. They weren't at all intrusive but were there to help if required.
The cottage is so dog friendly and my two loved playing in the safe garden. The wildlife in the area is AMAZING and my camera got plenty of use. Dolphins, hares, red deer, buzzards, red squirrels...bliss! We even saw deer at the front one morning.
There are excellent walks from the front door, in the forest and along the Loch shore. Plenty of info on where to visit in the cottage.
I'm booking for next year.....and looking forward to it already .
Thank you Fiona and Graeme for a wonderful holiday!
The house itself is lovely and the garden is a dream for dogs but the owners like to manage the place daily. We like to get away from it all on holiday and just shut the door on the world but, although I told the owners that due to a health issue I needed to take a nap most afternoons they came knocking the door twice. On not getting an answer the owner walked across the fron of the house and looked in the window then returned later to ask if we were hoovering regularly as they'd had new carpet fitted. There were notes and lists everywhere from where to park the car to how to stock the fridge for maximum efficiency. Due to an aga in the kitchen we were asked to leave the doors open to both the utility room and the living room and the draft caused me to have chilblains on my feet. The heating was set with a large "DONT ALTER" notice and the house got very cold very quickly. My husband and I felt as if we were being monitored the whole time and actually left two days early.
The house and owners may suit many people but just wasn't what we were looking for in a relaxing, get away from it all holiday.
