On a recent cruise, we stopped in Kirkwall for a day trip. As one of the shore excursions was a hike along the Yesnaby Cliffs...and this turned out to be one of the best excursions of the entire trip.

The scenery is breathtaking. There are birds to be seen, waves crashing into the cliffs and amazing rock formations. The ground, while sloped upward, is level and easily navigated.

I would highly recommend a walk and a visit to this area!

The Yesnaby cliffs and sea stack is well worth a visit. Plan for a longer stay if you can - 2-3 hours to really hike and see the stacks. This area has parking and very good info boards. We spent 2 hours and could have easily stayed for 4 or 5 hours. There is a brough on the cliff side and the view from there is magnificent. Take time and explore here. This is not a drive by sight.

You feel like you're at the end of the world! Amazing views. Although a few cars parked cliffs, we felt like we had the place all to ourselves. We were here in July and it was cool and windy - bring a jacket with a hood...also hilly walking, prob not conducive to strollers, those with ambulation issues or very young children. A much longer walk to Yesnaby Castle, but worth the visit even if you only make it to one of the cliffs.

This is a great place with fabulous views. A little effort walking south pays dividends. The wildlife is also spectacular with lovely views of bird life. Do pay it a visit and put your boots on and walk along the cliffs.

Plenty of parking. Walk with sea to your right and you'll get to the 'castle' within 3/4 mile. Great views all along the path. You can also walk up the coast to a broch.
