“Orkneys jewel in the crown”
Reviewed 1 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

The Slap is an historical crofters cottage built in the 1800's, that has in recent years been lovingly restored by Catherine Corsie, her husband Neil and family into Orkney's finest and foremost holiday cottage.
The cottage has been brought into the 21st century with all the mod cons but it has cleverly retained all of its 'olde worlde' charm. The idyllic location of the charming isle of Burray has stunning views of Scapa Flow, The Isle of Copinsay and the historic Churchill Barriers.
Catherine and her family's hospitality is second to none and her knowledge about, and enthusiasm for Orkney is infectious.
We have returned many times to the Slap down the years and were so charmed by Catherine and the cottage that we wrote a novel where she makes a guest appearance !
The novel is titled 'When The Tide Comes In' and Catherine proudly keeps a copy in the Slap for holidaymakers to read.
The cottage is set amongst 6 acres on a working farm and is an animal lovers paradise. Get to know the animals and they will have an hypnotic affect on you.
There are far too many things to see and do on the islands to list here but don't bother going to the tourist information office to find out about the history, archaeology and wildlife just ask Catherine, she is the Encyclopedia Orcadia What she doesn't know about the islands is not worth knowing.
As with most other holidaymakers including us, one visit here and you will almost certainly return. We would strongly advise booking 2 weeks as there is so much to do and see.

“Really welcoming, well equipped and characterful cottagte”
Reviewed 26 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

This is our second visit to the Slap, this time for 2 weeks and as ever we were made extremely welcome by Catherine with all sorts of Orkney treats and her own warm welcome. It was lovely to arrive to a cottage filled with wild flowers in every room! It is the best equipped self catering accommodation that I have ever stayed in, and it was a joy to come back and relax in The Slap after a day out. It was good also to make the acquaintance of all the animals again too. We are already planning the next visit!

“Heavenly ”

Have just arrived home from a wonderful stay at the Slap. Came here on a recommendation and not remotely disappointed. Catherine and Neil were so welcoming and the Slap was just gorgeous. Our 2 small kids had a total ball meeting all the baby animals - Catherine took time almost every day to show the kids something around the farm. Attention to detail and excellent quality accommodation. Thanks for a wonderful holiday!

“The Slap - A Big Hit”
Reviewed 20 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Want something different, an old croft house that has been delightfully restored throughout and still offers all the modern comforts you require. Great views and a great place to chill out, peace and quiet, and an ideal place to plan your sightseeing trips which are all within easy distance to get to by car.

You will receive a very warm welcome from Catherine who is a great source of information about the island and will advise on travel to different islands and where the best places to eat are located. Any questions, just ask Catherine.

An Orkney courtesy package awaits you in the kitchen when you arrive and freshly picked wild flowers adorn all the rooms - an excellent welcoming touch.

We loved all the animals and they will soon get you trained to feed them daily.

We had a great time at The Slap and touring all around the island. It was home from home.
This was one of our best holidays ever.

Thank you for the very personal touch with a copy of The Orcadian from one hundred years ago, this is very much appreciated.

Thanks for the fish 'take-away'

We will be back.

“My dream tiny home!”
Reviewed 30 March 2016 for a stay in February 2014

The Slap is a wonderfully sensitively restored little barn on a lovely little island. Orkney is a place layered with history and so it felt just right to be dwelling here for the week, with the stone floors and the windows looking out over the island of Burray. Our favourite room in the cottage was the kitchen. The cottage has a real welcoming feel to it, and Catherine is very friendly, along with her "extended family" of animals on the farm.
My friend and I had such a lovely time here that I returned a year later with my partner.
