Very quiet location, stunning views and plenty places to visit. Would recommend Forde Abbey well worth a visit.
We had a very comfortable stay at the Annexe. The furnishings are of a high standard and the bed very comfortable. The lighting was excellent . The damp problems mentioned by a previous reviewer had been sorted prior to our arrival and there was no repetition. The central heating worked well although we hardly needed it as the accommodation was so warm and the weather kind despite it being October. We even got to have tea in the sunshine on the secret terrace garden with views all the way to the coast. The location is excellent with Bridport, Lyme Regis & Axminster close by and the walk up to Hardown Hill literally on the doorstep. Golden Cap – one of our favourite walks and the highest point on the South Coast – is within 2 miles. If you intend cooking at the annexe be aware there is not a conventional cooker/oven rather a microwave/combi oven and a table top 2 ring hot plate – despite this we managed to eat well with excellent supermarket ready meals from the Waitrose & Morrisons in Bridport. Also no CD player so if you like music I suggest you bring your own. Overall excellent – so good in fact we have re-booked for next year !
I am sorry to say that the annex didn't live up to expectations. Inside was damp, musty smell. Damp patches in corners of walls, around Windows. And even mold in the cupboard, which we only discovered after putting the lights on after the 4th day, so all we put in it was taken out and cleaned off, and said cupboard not used again.
Obviously the damp a problem for a while. The heating only came on once, we had no control of the radiators, so months with no airing or heating in the annex will only contribute to the damp.
I don't like writing negative comments, but I can't really say anything else.
The area itself was lovely, but as for the accommodation, it was what it was. Sorry.
We had a wonderful break last October. We live on a farm where there is always too much to be done and neither of us are spring chickens, so a getaway every so often is imperative! We really reconnected and spent loads of time talking and walking; something that gets brushed aside at home. We told Louise we'd definitely be back this year, but sadly we are both suffering with mobility problems - however we are very keen to go next year, health permitting. Can't wait to see how work's gone on the garden and the old cottage above. Also, really impressed how dog friendly Bridport is, (even though we left our lot at home!)
Clean , quiet and cosy annexe in a good location up a winding road / track away from a busy road . Lovely garden with great views in which to relax . Easily accessible walks, and a very friendly, helpful and welcoming vendor.
