Description: The white Hart Inn in Bridestowe is a delightfully charming 17th century village pub. Set in the centre of this popular West Devon village, there is a warm welcome to locals and visitors alike. Appetising home cooked food at affordable prices is available, along with an excellent range of real ales, ciders, largers and wines. In the warmer months outside seating at the front of the pub provides an ideal location for alfresco relaxing. With a small river running alongside the pub and through the centre of the village it is a most picturesque setting. For the cooler months log fires offer warmth and cosiness to the two bars where the seating is arranged informally ensuring a relaxed atmosphere and inviting ambiance. Children are most welcome as are dogs with waggy tails. There are regular events from quiz nights to live music, in addition to key sporting events on TV. PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NOT WEATHERSPOONS

There is the usual pub food - steak, fish and chips etc but if you want to taste wonderfully cooked fish dishes then go for the fish on the specials board. The range of accompanying vegetables is small - peas, mushy peas of salad - but in a small kitchen it is best to focus on the main part of the dish. Don't expect tiny portions arranged around the plate but a good solid meal which is hot and perfect

The pub outside was very well tended and having met the landlord a few days earlier tending his flowers, we commented on how smart it was and said we would pop in for lunch on another occasion, which we did.

The inside of the pub was not as smart as the outside with a large TV going, not impressed to start with!
To avoid having to see the TV we decided to sit under it , not a good idea as it felt like the locals were all staring at us, maybe they were?

There was a choice of three Real Ales and the two I tried were nice.

The menu was like you would have expected 20 years ago, which also goes for the plastic sleeves enclosing it.
My wife had fish and chips and I had a curry which was very disappointing in appearance and taste. It was a shame as there's a good choice of fine pubs serving excellent food in the area.
This is the second time we have eaten at the pub in the past few years and I believe this time was also a different LandLord.

We are unlikely to try again in the near future.

Thank Graham J

Okay..... to begin with, this is the White Hart Inn located in the centre of Bridestowe....nothing to do with the one situated in nearby Southampton (weatherspoons).
A great village pub; full of friendly locals.
Though my new best friend was Orchard Pig, a great cider.
This place has a great atmosphere; some good banter with newly made friends and great service from the owner and his team.
A typical village pub which caters for visitors to the area as well as the local people who live in the village.
Top marks to the pub and the people of Bridestowe.

We hadn't been to the White Hart since it changed ownership and we are so pleased that we went. On entering, we were greeted by the delightful young lady who was serving at the bar. This should be the norm but our experience in so many places has been that we have been ingored. So this was a great start. The menu is well balanced and the choice was hard to make, however we both chose the beefburgers served with chips and salad. We were not disappointed. The meat is of extremely high quality as expected as it is supplied by Warrens. It was cooked to absolute perfection and was the best beefburger that I have ever eaten in the UK! We followed up with key lime pie and a huge dollup of clotted cream. Oh wow, yum!!!! To let you into a secret, I took home part of my beefburger as I had to make room for pudding.sssshhh. Clean plates from us both. Mike (proprietor) is a great guy and he and Ellie (the waitress and bar lady) are a joy and both so busy but notwithstanding still made time to talk with us. Can't wait to return.
