Ferns is located about an hours drive south of Dublin. Ann met us at the property. Once inside, there were home-cooked scones and home-made jam. Ann and Stephen had also put up a Christmas tree and decorations around the house. The cottage was much bigger inside, than it looks from the outside. It really was a home-away-from-home. It was warm and spacious. Everything was there, that we possibly needed.
Ferns is a lovely village - everything within walking distance - church, small supermarket, deli with fruit, groceries etc, discount store, and pubs one of which had great meals for good prices. Tolls could be paid at either Maces, or the Apple service station in Ferns.
We hired a car, so were able to go on many day trips to surrounding towns and cities, many of these trips on narrow country roads. Still, all the roads were sealed and well-maintained. The scenery beautiful.
Gorey was about 20 minutes away, and it had Tesco, Aldi, Dunnes and Lidl, along with many other shops and banks.
We had such a great time at Ferns - it was very relaxing and peaceful, yet made us feel quite exhilarated and refreshed.
Ann and Stephen were perfect hosts - freshly baked bread and more jam, on another occasion. The cottage was serviced weekly, with fresh linen and towels.
Ferns is a great place to stay - it was hard to leave such a friendly and welcoming village.
We were in touch via email with Ann before arriving and she always answered our questions immediately. When we arrived, she already had set fire in the chimney and surprised us with delicious homebaked scones. Ferns is a nice and calm little village with a good restaurant and grocery store. It is a good place to explore Wicklow Mountain, Kilkenny, Hook Head, Wexford and the beaches along the east coast. The house was very clean and the kitchen is well equipped. We enjoyed some beers at the pub around the corner. We recommend this place!

Many of the reviews here speak of the great enjoyment families with children have had staying here, and they certainly would: lots of play facilities, a lovely garden and plenty of toys. We are an older couple who needed somewhere to relax and recuperate, and it was just the ticket for us, too. The owner gave us a friendly welcome and some home baked goodies, much appreciated. The cottage has absolutely everything you need (and more) and the area is so beautiful, with friendly local people and delicious food. We felt at home straight away and very comfortable, thank you.
Our second stay at Gardenrath and it's as good as ever. Clean, comfortable and really homely. The log burner makes it really cosy and owners keep it well stocked with fuel. Lovely welcome pack on arrival. Quiet spot in a beautiful historic village and perfectly located for touring the area. Shops, pubs, eateries etc all a short walk away in the village. Owners live next door but one and very helpful and friendly. Well stocked in house and garden with toys for children. Large enclosed garden was great for the dog. Not grand or plush but a really comfortable home from home perfect for a relaxing holiday.

Just returned from what I think is our fifth stay in Gardenrath lodge and it was as wonderful as allways. The weather this time was dreadful but the welcome and hospitality we received from Ann and Stephen made up for that. The house was clean and cosy and the welcome basket (and the extra eggs during the week) were much appreciated after the long drive up from Cork in the rain. Even though it rained most of our stay, we still found plenty to occupy us and had a thoroughally enjoyable stay. Thank you once again Ann and Stephen.
