“Excellent accommodation, a great base for exploring this beautiful area”

We went to the area to do some sea kayak angling. We were happy from the moment we drove in the gate as it was apparent that this small development had been designed with care.

The lodge has a large room on the ground floor which comfortably acts as sitting room and dining/cooking. There is television apparently with a good range of channels but we never switched it on. The WiFi is fine although at times a little slow but this is standard in Ireland. There is a good collection of books if one has time to read. The large stone fire place must be fantastic in cooler times but not on our visit.....I got heat stroke on my last day with 27 degrees C.

The kitchen is adequately equipped. There is a patio, through the back door, with a dining table and a view across the hay meadow down to the Argideen river.

There are two comfortable bedrooms, a double and one with two bunk beds. The bathroom was fine with a shower and plenty of fresh towels were provided.

For the angler the lodge comes with a complementary rod on the Argideen river which is one of Ireland's best seatrout rivers. Additional tickets are available at €10 (9am to 9pm or the evening from 9pm to 9am). When we were there the river was low but held plenty of seatrout , a couple to 5lbs. We were there for the sea fishing this time and the coast is fantastic for sea kayaking. There was room to store our kayaks and a rod room for our tackle.

We look forward to staying here for our Cork trips in the future.

“Glad to be back at Argideen Lodge for our second stay.”

Glad to be returning for our second visit to this peaceful and relaxing holiday let. Welcomed by Tim the owner on arrival, we immediately felt at home in Lodge 2 in which we had stayed last year. Everything was clean and tidy. The kitchen has everything you need and you don't have to search for that all important corkscrew and bottle opener. On cooler evenings,we lit the open fire which makes for a very cosy and comfortable atmosphere.

Whether you come for the fishing or just to relax, you'll discover the Argideen valley is a hidden gem in the West Cork countryside. We saw the kingfisher and dipper on most days, and if your fortunate when night time sea trouting you may glimpse an otter even though he may not have his state fishing licence with him!

I enjoyed good sea trout fishing and found all the local anglers from the Argideen Anglers Association both friendly and helpful.

With the coast only a short drive away, this is just a great holiday venue to escape the stresses and strains of modern day life. We hope to return again next September.
