Beautiful remote location with easy access to the rest of Lewis and Harris by car. Cosy comfortable house to come home to. Norma a great host available if required.
WE LOVED BEING HERE, 3 days wasn’t long enough!
The Ard is an ideal place to stay for a visit on the Isle of Lewis. Thank you very much again Norma and Amy for your hospitality. A nice and calm place to be. Perfect for getting rest from stressful days.
It is recommended to get stocks from Stornoway in advance (40min). There’s a small shop 5min away, but very limited.
Great Bernera has a round hike to do, with beaches and an Iron Age House with a guide. A Norse Mill is just behind the Ard. South West Lewis is just 45min away, the Callanish Standing Stones 20min.
My wife and me liked it very much. All the property is clean, and the bathtub is a must do.
Fabulous, warm and very inviting. Outlook from lounge, view to die for. Owner very friendly and on hand to answer any questions. Definitely on the cards for a re-visit
I realize I am just repeating what others have said, but all the rave reviews are accurate. This new cottage is set in a quiet 'off the beaten path' location. But also centrally located for exploring Lewis and Harris. After the hordes of crowds on the Isle of Skye, this was just what we needed. Ard Cottage is supplied with everything you need, including my guilty pleasure - plenty of huge, soft towels! You do need to plan ahead for buying supplies. Be sure to stop in Tarbert or Stornoway on your way to the cottage. The shop in the village is really small and ALL shops are closed on Sundays. Even the Tesco.
Norma's house is perfect for a visit to Lewis and Harris. It is on the island of Bernera, accessible by bridge only a few minutes drive from the house. It is centrally located for visits to all parts of Lewis and for trips down to Harris. It is located next to a beautiful loch with many local walks around as well including the Great Bernera Trail which we did. There is a post office and shop nearby and a playpark for those with children. It is quiet and lovely without being isolated. The small village of Breacleit is just a stroll away. The house itself is exceptionally warm, clean and comfortable and has every amenity you could wish for. Having use of the bikes was great. Highly recommended all in and great for returning to after a long satisfying day out.
