The location is fabulous, with so much of interest to see even just right from the living room window. The house is warm and comfy, well equipped and Anne the owner is friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended!
An excellent starting point to explore the wonderful scenery of Great Bernera. Great Bernera, part of the Isle of Lewis, boasts golden beaches, azure water, rugged hills and romantic moors. The Iron Age House is within walking distance of the cottage, as is the Norse (water)Mill and the Atlantic Ocean. A 40 minutes drive away is the Seatrek boat, taking you to the Ocean to see seals, kittiwakes, puffins and historical landmarks not otherwise accessible. Valasy crofthouse is very comfortable. The owners are knowledgeable and friendly: we were welcomed with flowers and tea with ginger bread. A really lovely place.
Lovely house in an idyllic position overlooking the tidal loch.
Well furnished and equipped house, with very helpful owners living next door.
The house is by a footbridge over a tidal channel giving a view of endless flow of water. The house is very well equipped and comfortable, Ann and Chris are excellent hosts, and Riley the dog great entertainment. Location is remote and you can walk along the coast direct from the cottage. The area is fascinating - standing stones at Callanish and Carloway Broch quite close as well as Iron Age settlements. Lots of wildlife, birding is very good, visits to weavers of Harris tweed and to distilleries, and the fishing port of Stornoway on the opposite coast of Lewis. We had an excellent week.
From making my first contact with Anne everything was easy. As a single out of season travellers she was able to offer a great rate. Information was quickly received and very useful. The Valasay Crofthouse is part of her family home, but you are completely independent and never see or hear the family unless you need help or information, which they are wonderful with as Anne's husband is a tour guide and has a wealth of information to share. The Valasay Crofthouse is warm and comfortable, extremely well equipped and very homely. Gt. Berrnera is fascinating and has a lot to offer, Iron Age settlements, gorgeous beaches and lots more. It's also very accessible for many other places of interest around the Lewis and Harris Islands, in fact no where is far away. The Location is unique, next to a small footbridge crossing the Loch which is tidal, there is always water flowing in or out which makes it very interesting. Anne's croft extends across the bridge so you can potter around there and investigate the old house. The road ends at Valasay Crofthouse so there is never any passing traffic or noise, just the water and the birds. I added to my original booking of 7 days and would have stayed longer had I not already made other arrangements.
