The cottage I stayed at was clean, cozy, and perfect for this mother of 5 and wife to have some alone time with God and to be pampered. It has sweet southern charm and the owners are precious people. I never expected to find a cottage on the fourth of July where the owners did not charge an exuberant rate due to it being the holiday. It was the price listed on Flip Key. There was fresh fruit, milk, orange juice, bagels, english muffins, honey, and butter in the refrigerator and packages of grits, oatmeal, bananas, and cereal on a little bar in the kitchen. There is coffee and creamer and sugar and sweetener. Dusty met me when I pulled in and was so kind and caring. He showed me the cottage and everything that was in it and pointed to an umbrella that was in the room and said to take it with me if I went anywhere because rain out of nowhere was usual. He said if I needed anything at all he they were just a phone call away. The in ground pool in the beautiful southern gardens is such a bonus and since there is only one cottage you get it to yourself. This is a historic property with an interesting history and more charm than can be explained. It is private and safe and quiet. I would recommend this to everyone but please leave me some open dates because I am going back!!! :)

My husband and I needed a quick getaway for our wedding anniversary I found this place on trip advisor it was lovely clean peaceful quaint and full of history we had all the amenities we needed. It felt like staying at a family members house!! Not modern but very very sweet.

Our trip began with the Saint Paul Church Spring Tea in pouring rain. We finished there early and at 1:15pm had no where to go. I called our hosts and they were very gracious to let us check-in early (regular check-in is 2pm). We were so pleased and surprised at how charming the cottage and location is. It's in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood of large, restored gorgeous homes within a 3 minute drive to downtown Summerville, and a 35 minute drive to John's Island. Our Garmin GPS navigated Summerville and surrounding areas with no problems. The cottage was spotlessly clean and neat as a pin.

Our hosts, Dusty and Emmagene Rhodes had a bottle of champagne and two chilled champagne flutes waiting for us in the refrigerator, in honor of our anniversary. It was their small, thoughtful touches that made this trip so special. The weather was rainy and dreary during our entire stay, but we were happy and content in this lovely small town and little cottage that offered everything we needed and more.

The Rhodes provide a continental plus breakfast for their guests. This is what they left for our 3-night stay: 2 eggs, 2 bowls freshly cut strawberries (about one pint in each bowl), 2 yogurt containers, 1 pint milk, 1 pint orange juice, 2 bagels, 2 english muffins, 2 homemade blueberry muffins, 3 packs flavored instant oatmeal, 1 cup raisins/dried cranberries, 2 cups bran flake cereal, 2 bananas, a large container of Maxwell House coffee in filters, individual black tea bags, sugar/sweet & low packs, liquid coffeemate packs, 2 tablespoons real salted butter and about 1/4 cup luscious fruit jelly. All the food items were attractively displayed in baskets and antique dishes. Appliances at the cottage are: tall electric can opener, 5 cup drip coffeemaker, 2 slice toaster, full size blender, full size microwave, full size electric range, and full size refrigerator/freezer. There was a double sink with small dish drain on one side. There were plenty of dishes, silverware, side serving pieces, glassware (wine glasses too!) and coffee cups. Plenty of kitchen towels were provided. The cookware was well used. We brought one small nonstick fry/wok pan with spatula from home, wine opener and dish soap. There may have been a wine opener there, but I did not look for one. There were paper towels, napkins and antique filled salt/pepper shakers on the dining table for two. You may want to bring one good knife, but what we found there was adequate for our needs. There was even a large wooden tray on top of the microwave you could use to transport food for 'breakfast by the pool'.

Everything about this little cottage is just alittle smaller than your home, but that's what made it so charming. The bath featured a darling granite vanity, good flush toilet, and a 3-foot shower with spotless clean white foam nonslip floor mat. There were plenty of white towels and two navy face cloths for makeup removal. There was a plastic bin under the sink for dirty towels, to leave on the front steps so the Rhodes could wash and return them. But we had plenty of towels for our 3-night stay. The bathroom also featured darling little shelves and cabinets that offered ample space for us to unpack all our toiletries. There is a wall hairdryer and small nightlight. You need to bring bath and hand soap. The bath even featured a quaint small antique skylight!

The living area was precious with its comfortable full size sleeper sofa, wing chair, plenty of lamps, antique side tables, TV/DVD in an antique cabinet, and charming little fireplace. The cable TV offered ample channels through ATT Uverse. The ATT Uverse Wifi worked great with our smartphones, even on the screen porch. You will need to bring DVDs. There were plenty of throw pillows and a cozy afghan on the sofa. There were some books and interesting magazines in the cottage, along with tourist information about Charleston and Summerville the Rhodes have compiled into two notebooks. There are acouple of guestbooks we enjoyed reading. There is also a nice little lamp on the ledge between the living area and kitchen that had a small candle bulb. We used this for a nightlight. The small brick fireplace featured gas logs that Dusty told us were for 'ambiance only'. Since the temps were around 50 each night during our stay, we did use the logs while we were awake. They put out very little heat, but were amazing. It sounded and looked exactly like a real fire --- very welcome in dreary weather. Even the embers popped! I told my husband we have to find some of these for our bedroom at home.

The queen canopy bed featured a firm mattress (comfortable, not rock hard), soft sheets, one blanket, a gorgeous cotton quilt, and 4 pillows (2 are in shams). A desk/chest antique piece at the foot of the bed held all our clothes, along with an extra blanket in the third drawer. There was a walk-in closet at the foot of the bed with two nice robes on a hanging rod (bring your own hangers), two extra pillows, iron and ironing board. We unpacked and stored our suitcase, tote bags, etc. in here. Very handy space!

I especially loved the screen porch made for two (the Rhodes allowed me to smoke on the porch, and I was very thankful for this since it rained our entire trip). A small crockery type ashtray was provided on the porch. There are few words to describe the Rhodes garden. Lovely and amazing would maybe do it. There is a large pool for guests to use in nice weather. It went from 3 to 8 feet, and is surrounded by tall plants against fencing and a concrete patio area. Tables and chairs compliment this area, which is just steps from the cottage screen porch. You should bring beach towels if you plan to swim. The screen porch has a retractable clothesline to dry your swimsuits and swim towels. Other areas of the yard feature small 'secret type' gardens with Charleston benches and even an antique jogging board.

The Rhodes have basically thought of most everything you'll need, plus more. We actually cooked all our meals at the cottage. We took our little 2 quart crockpot, along with grilled/frozen burgers, sliced/frozen deli chicken, and 2 nice steaks and baked potatoes. Each day we dropped a foil wrapped entree in the crockpot set on low, and supper was easy to finish when we returned. We stopped by Bakers Garden & BBQ Kitchen for homemade side dishes (mac & cheese, collards, baked beans -- yum!). We also brought these items from home: one dozen eggs, bag salad, dressing, mayo, milk, juice, coke and sweet tea. This saved us a lot of money that we spent at the Charleston Tea Plantation, Stono Market, Angel Oak, Bakers Garden & Cafe, and Flowertown Garden Center (they have 2000+ plants and beautiful fountains/statuary here --- along with helpful service and reasonable prices). There are a number of grocery stores within a 5 minute drive from the cottage (Publix, Food Lion, etc.).

We have family in Charleston and have visited there hundreds of times, but had never been to Summerville. It is a lovely peaceful town with plenty of nearby shopping. We rode by Azalea Park and had hoped to picnic there, but the weather did not cooperate. Lowcountryloop Trolley now offers on/off trolley service from Summerville to Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and Isle of Palms. They also have fun trolley trips to the Ashley River plantations, John's Island, and more. We highly recommend their Sip & See Tour.

My husband and I really enjoyed this trip. There were plenty of things we wanted to do, but ran out of time. The Rhodes were wonderful hosts, offering us complete privacy. Dusty greeted us on arrival and directed us where to park (two designated spaces right at cottage walkway). He quickly explained the property amenities, breakfast items, and then left us to get settled. The Rhodes do not enter the cottage during your entire stay. Emmagene called the next morning to ask if we needed anything at all. Their phone number is available in the cottage in case you need to call them, and we actually did one day to ask for extra toilet tissue. When Dusty brought it over, he kindly took a photo of us in front of the cottage. At checkout (11am) we left the cottage key on the cute dining table for two. It was sad to leave such a special place, but we both hope to return real soon.

We stayed in this quaint cottage in Dec. 2014. It is on a peaceful and quiet street and a very short distance from churches, interesting, historical walks , and downtown. Dusty and Emmajean were great hosts. Highly recommend the Bed and Breakfast of Summerville. I hope we can stay there again this year.
