Played today. They are ripping out half of the practice green due to winter kill on the grass. Some of the greens are the same. The fairways have lots of thin spots. The layout is great but the condition is not so good right now. I would not recommend it until the grass has some time to fill in and come back. Two of the greens on the marsh are almost all dirt.

We have been to Pawleys Island 5 of the last 6 summers. Pawley's Plantation is a course we always try to play. I love the back 9 there. The holes aver the marsh are fun. The pace of play was great (3.5 hours for an afternoon 18) and that was staying on the cart path. We will continue to make this one of our go to courses on our trips to PI.

Excellent experience short the cart assistants who could care less for non members. Difficult layout. Favors target golfers. Beautiful course condition. Pro shop offers good selection and operates efficiently. Will definitely include in return trip planning.

We spent two weeks in one of the golf condo rentals at Pawleys Plantation which is now managed by Litchfield. It all started very well, we knew to stop at Litchfield to get our golf tickets, room keys etc. and were in and out there quite quickly. We arrived at our unit which was a one bedroom condo, ground level with screened in deck. The kitchen and bathroom, were clean, but the rest of the unit showed that they weren't really ready for us.
Table tops, glass, deck had not been touched in some time with obvious debris, dust, etc.. The carpet in the bedroom was filthy with so many stains that they were like a pattern unto themselves, the headboards on the bed had huge oily head stains, the walls in the bedroom were covered in dirt stains and cobwebs were hanging from the ceiling, the furniture on the deck had not been wiped down, it was stained and discoloured and the deck floor had not been swept or vacuumed and an animal had ripped a hole in the screen, so you didn't dare leave the door open for any length of time and there weren't any screen doors. The floor in the main room had not been washed as you could see dirt marks etc and had a tacky feeling. On top of all of this were the dead bugs all around the unit that should have been but were not vacuumed, including in the little sink next to the dining area. During our stay we also killed two cockroaches and a spider that was at least 1.5 inches square. We were without cable for nearly three days and after someone finally came in to install a new box, then I had to spend 20 minutes on the phone at my expense with roaming charges to reactivate the cable so that we could watch The Masters. The phone in the unit did not work, so the only way to communicate with Litchfield was through my personal cell or email and then there were several days where no one answered the phone at the Litchfield front desk-it just rang and rang. The employees on site at Pawleys have nothing to do with the rentals. Basically, if someone had been doing their job they would have removed our unit from the rental list until such time that it was properly maintained and cleaned. On the good side the bed was incredibly comfortable, but the unit is right next to the swimming pool and the lights are quite bright, so if was impossible to get the bedroom very dark for sleeping.
I did bring all these deficiencies to Litchfield's attention by phone and email and provided photos. Since we were there for so long and with no solution being offered I cleaned the unit so we could stand to stay there. At no time did they offer to move us to another unit that was in a proper state for renting. At one point there was a promise of a financial reimbursement of some amount, but that never materialised. When the cable went out they acted surprised, sorry, but cable upgrades are advertised and if you are a property manager you should know its going to happen and have a plan to mitigate impact prior to it happening, telling people that someone will show up sometime is not good management, not having the installer phone and activate the new box is also ridiculous, as well as not providing instructions so when you notice the new box is there you know what you are expected to do. Offering to have someone come in and clean a carpet after they are already in a unit so they can walk on a wet carpet later in the day is not a good solution. Basically, I felt that Litchfield did nothing from a customer service perspective. I wasn't looking for excellent, I was looking for them to demonstrate that they understood that they had not lived up to what they advertised and do something about it. But they did nothing. On top of all of these things, the wifi is so slow it is surely powered by a hamster running on a wheel that someone keeps forgetting to give a peanut to.

We have been on golf holidays many times over the years. We have always stayed in owned units managed by a property management company. This is absolutely the first time we have ever had issues like this. I would never recommend this property, nor Litchfield. I think Pawleys must be an afterthought for them. It is all so disappointing, because the location of the unit is great, the golf course was in very good condition and we had great rounds of golf there and at nearly all the courses we played.

Before we went there were a number of poor ratings for the rentals at Pawleys and I ignored them because there didn't seem to be that many, but I can confirm that there is indeed reason to be concerned and to look elsewhere. It could have all been so great, but it wasn't.

This was quite an experience. The greens, tees and fairways were the best we've played this trip! We've played 10 different courses and this would be one we will do again. The two tee offs (13&17) on the marsh causeway were our only areas we didn't like. Doesn't seem to be a good reason for that 13th hole out there and the number of balls lost in the marsh must be astronomical! Everything else was suburb!
