We debated about spending the money but were glad we did. The tour was on time and was very clean. The crew were very polite. I would tell my friends to do it.

The kids loved the ride out and loved looking at the artifacts. We were there for the 9:30 trip and we enjoyed the flag raising at.

We bought our tickets at the time we wanted to go. We had thought of pre-buying but the thunderstorms kept popping up and we didn't want to get caught in one once we were on the fort as there isn't any cover.
The boat is comfortable with some seating and a very limited food service. There is a/c seating inside, and a covered open air area in the back. The one way ride takes about 45 minutes and there is a recorded historical message that is played on the loudspeakers.
Once they dock at the fort, there is also another presentation given by a park ranger that lasts about 15-20 minutes. There is a small museum on the island fort with many pictures and lots of information about the fort that I thought was very interesting. You have time to wander around the facility and see some of what is left of the fort.
There is a gift shop and also restrooms on the island.

The boat ride was nice as I enjoy boat rides and thankfully there weren't a LOT of small children running around (there were some middle schoolers but they were well-behaved). I was unimpressed with the concessions because the food wasn't even available until after the tour and then they ran out of bottled water. They also don't take cards so make sure you have cash. The price was REALLY high for this tour and this company has a monopoly on it so they can just charge you whatever they want. You don't get to stay on the island itself nearly long enough to take in all the exhibits so we felt rushed. The ranger did a GREAT job of talking and not shying away from the more sensitive things about the Civil War. I'm glad we went but there sure is lots of room for improvement.
