The room was awesome. It had a lot of character. Bathroom was small, but you were staying in an historic hotel so it was amazing. The people working in the hotel were very nice and went out of their way to help you. We will be back/

My husband took me for a quick getaway. This hotel continues to have the original charm of the era it was built. The location is awesome. The staff was very nice & helpful. Have been in the past & enjoyed the stay.

The absolute worst customer service I have ever received at any hotel put a damper on a long planned girls trip. Francis Marion Hotel would not honor the reserved (2 months) reservation for one room with TWO beds made through a third party booking company, forcing my 61 year old friend to spend two nights sleeping on the sofa. When she complained the hotel clerk actually smirked at us. The manager never did come out after several attempts to clear up the problem over a two day period. My friend informed the clerk we would be leaving on the third day because she did not intend to spend a third night on the sofa. The clerk acknowledges this and never mentioned a cancellation fee. After we were packed and ready to check out the next morning, the attending clerk said she would have to pay if we left. At almost $300 a night, it is ridiculous to have to sleep on the sofa regardless of a confirmed reservation or pay if you leave for lack of adequate accommodation. Again, the manager did not come out to discuss it. They did give us a room with two beds on the third night but it was really too little too late. The hotel needs to be renovated and the hotel staff (including the general manager) retrained in how to treat guests. Our party had two rooms reserved but we were totally ignored in favor of a couple of large wedding parties. Again, the treatment we received put a damper on our long awaited trip. The attitude of the hotel staff was horrible. I would never stay at the hotel again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Quick trip through Charleston and wanted a non chain historic hotel, and this fit the bill. Staff helpful, room comfortable and clean, and price was comparable to other hotels in town. Room had a great view.

Our family recently stayed at the Francis Marion in one of the suites. This was our second stay here ... last time was nine years ago. On our previous stay, we had an actual suite ... a living room and a bedroom. This time, our "suite" was actually two hotel rooms with a french door between. The two rooms were clearly originally separate, but had been made into a suite at some point. (One of the exterior doors had been sealed off.) Definitely a big step down from the actual suite we stayed in the first time. So if you book a suite, call and make sure they put you in an actual corner suite. The hotel is old, and it really has potential, but is in desperate need of a renovation. It could really be amazing. The lobby is already beautiful, and the location is awesome. The bathrooms are TINY. So tiny. The pipes in the bathroom are rusted and worn. Despite its age, the hotel seemed clean, and we were comfortable during our stay. Probably won't stay here again unless it undergoes a renovation.

Room Tip: If you book a suite, be sure to ask for an actual suite and not two rooms made into a suite.
