Owner description: The life and works of artist Charles Demuth (1883-1935) can be explored by visiting the art museum housing his major works and the adjacent 18th-century buildings that were home to his family for five generations.

What a discovery to find the home of this world famous artist in Lancaster. The collection is small and, of course, you shouldn't expect to see Demuth's most famous paintings here--the museum is tiny, with a budget to match, I expect. But if, like me, you would be thrilled to see the artist's studio & palette, the family business next store (Demuth Tobacco is still in business), discover excellent examples of his work you've not seen before, and want to get an idea of his life in Lancaster, then this is a gem of a museum will not disappoint. Lancaster can be very proud of her native son, and the vision it took to preserve and maintain this important site. Free, but please make a donation to support them.

We try to visit artist's homes and studios. This one celebrates Charles Demuth, one of the members of the American Modernist movement, who helped develop the Precisionist style.
Here they have some of his original work and his contemporaries. They also have rotating exhibits that often feature local artists.

This was a small museum and very cute. We were there for only about 20 minutes. Not very easy to find but worth it for the old house and unique art work.

If you are a Demuth fan the building and somewhat limited collection are satisfying, but don't expect an extensive collection or exhibits by other artists. Rather small venue.
