tiny museum run by volunteers. Huge amounts of information tighly packed into a small space. The artefacts discovered really transport you back 1000's of years.
To learn about Athelstan himself, leads you on to life today, with societie's rules etc.
Make sure you tender a donation, because TODAY, you just do not find may historical venues like this which are free. A very creditable vote of thanks to ALL in Mamesbury.

Visiting Malmesbury for the first time, we stopped by the Athelstan Museum (that is located with the Tourist Information Office), to learn more about the Iron Age origins of the town - the longest continually inhabited settlement in the UK!
Really interesting free museum with extremely helpful staff who were more than happy to answer out daughters dozens of question.
Interesting displays of the locally found coin hoards, Town's Abbey and Iron Age 3-D map of the historical town.
Highly recommended.
