Owner description: Teddy Roosevelt declared that this Italian Renaissance-style building was “the handsomest building I ever saw”. Indeed, the State Capitol, with its vaulted dome and grand staircase and the murals and painted floors inside, is thing to behold.

Visiting the PA Capital in Harrisburg is an awesome architectural experience. We have visited several times since moving here 2 years ago but the Christmas season was especially rewarding when the vocal groups were singing on the rotundra stairs.

We brought a group of 35 Seniors from Shannondell at Valley Forge to the Capitol Building for a tour and lunch with Senator Rafferty. He was most gracious in offering us some of his time and that of a few from his staff. We were able to sit up in the gallery and watch an hour long senate session, during at which time we were introduced as his special guests. Everyone was thrilled. The Building itself is impressive and tour guide was exceptional. She spoke loud and clear so everyone could hear and understand her. We learned quite a bit about the history behind the structure itself and also about what takes place there every day. What a fascinating trip.

My wife and I recently toured The Pennsylvania state Capitol in Harrisburg, PA and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were driving close by on a recent road trip and wanted to visit. There are 11 state capitols with gold domes, but this one is fantastic, even though not one of the “11”. This dome is actually covered in green terra cotta tiles. Forget about that because the interior of this fantastic structure is a must see. The architecture, artwork, stained glass and use of gold leaf in the interior is phenomenal. Luckily, our tour guide was a very enthusiastic young lady who was extremely knowledgeable. We actually joined a group of 4th or 5th grade students from Ephrata, PA. Don’t be afraid to join one of these groups if you decide to tour a state Capitol. They were energetic, well behaved and asked mostly good questions!

This building has so much history. From the chandeliers in the House chamber to the exquisite paintings throughout the complex.
The Rotunda is worth the visit in itself. Excellent guide

Excellent architecture. Very ornate, decorative inside. Well worth the stop. Tours available. The PA state capital building is considered one of the most decorative quality structures of all the state legislature buildings in the 50th states.
