Owner description: Pittock Mansion is a French Renaissance style historic house museum in Portland, Oregon. Built in 1914, Pittock Mansion tells the story of Portland’s transformation from pioneer town to modern, industrialized city through the history and legacy of one its most influential families, the Pittocks. Saved from demolition by dedicated citizens in 1964, the Mansion and surrounding estate was purchased by the City of Portland and opened to the public as a historic house museum.

This was a 5 minute drive up the hill from Washington Park's rose garden. Parking and wandering around the grounds is free and well worth the trip. Skyline views are good-but even better are the beautiful plants, trees, and flowers. What a surprise to find a fairy garden in the middle of the huge Douglass Firs!

The mansion and surrounding gardens are incredible. It has been fully restored and looks amazing inside and out. Lots of history and beautiful things to see and experience inside and outside. All the rooms are decorated with items from the early time periods of the mansion when it was being lived in by the Pittock family. The outside gardens are very nice, lots of blooming flowers and walking paths. There is a great overlook that affords you a great view of downtown Portland, excellent for photo opportunities. To get to the mansion is a little tricky. You will have to take several narrow, steep and winding roads to get there. Signage is at a minimal, so make sure to put the address into your phone or Garmin. A must see for those that enjoy old historic places, antique furniture, flower gardens and scenic overlooks.

You'll be glad you took a couple hours to go through this amazing Mansion, it's really cool! The amount of wood craftsmanship and Artistry is nearly overwhelming, and totally amazing! The room seem to go on into lessly there are so many. And the views from the windows and the gardens of Portland and the gorge are to be remembered.

The views of Portland are fantastic, but so are the Pittock Mansion grounds as well as the interior. It's a great destination to get outside of the city and learn about the early history of Portland.
